Ok guys and gals heres the deal. I got a Ichiban shift knob thinking since it was described as “universal” it would work for my car even though I have an automatic. Ok yea I can be a bit of an impulse buyer I admit it. anyway being blinded by the coolness of ths knob and my determination to make it work, I kept tryin to pull off the one already in my car and did, except it also broke a wire attached to the inside of it, which seems to be only for turning over drive on and off. Well cursing and swearing I put it back on and tried to drive a bit and was able to, but it felt a little bit tighter on the steering with turns and stuff if that makes any sense and the car was making a kind of squeaky noise which it does anyway when it hasnt been driven in awhile but it seemed a lil bit louder. SO I guess my question to all you dopers is, does it seem like I need to get it rewired? Will it be a big problem in the long run if I dont? And does anybody know how much something like this might cost to have done? Be gentle please, Ive already learned my lesson, I dont know shiat about cars so I need to stop pretending like I do. Any help/advice would be appreciated yall Thanks!:smack:
If the switch controls the overdrive (as you suggest, and is common on Toyotas for example), I would suggest getting it reconnected.
Not doing so, wouldn’t be that big of a deal. It will hurt your highway fuel milage, and put more wear on the engine per mile driven.
If you drive exclusively around town, it wouldn’t matter much at all.
As to your steering and squeaky noise symptoms, I cannot for the the life of me imagine how they would be related at all. On this, I would suggest you are just noticing these things more than before because you are looking/listening for problems at the moment.
