BSOD and cannot meaningfully use log files

Hello all,

I’ve had a Blue Screen of Death in Windows 7. I have no idea what caused it and I cannot find out.

Issues thus far:
Event viewer does not have a critical stop error listed. It has a bunch of listings right after where the BSOD should be but nothing for the actual error itself.

I know where the minidump is. I installed the Windows Debugger (which was quite a process in itself but that’s another story). The Windows Debugger did not like the minidump directory and told me I didn’t have permission to access it. Running the debugger as Administrator seems to have fixed this.

However, now the debugger tells me I don’t have the right symbols and therefore it cannot generate any meaningful info.

I do not understand why it is this difficult to diagnose a problem. Can anyone help me figure this out without having to install six new pieces of software that don’t work together at all?

I uploaded the minidump to an online service. Apparently, this is happening:

And this seems to be related to BitDefender Antivirus:

I highly recommend NirSoft’s bluescrenviewer software. No install necessary, it’s just an executable (and a help file) that gives you the important bits out of the minidump files automatically.

WhoCrashed might help too.
