What do I win?

Which website did Bricker quote from that “lies through its teeth”?

But apparently the lesson we’re supposed to learn is that we’re hypocrites for giving the OP in this thread a pass for believing proven racist scumbag Pat Buchanan said something racist about the re-election of a black president, while not giving Bricker a pass for believing that unionized workers would actively harm the response to Sandy out of pettiness. If Buchanan didn’t have a history of saying racist shit, I might agree with this assessment. But alack, alas, he does, and so I don’t.

Bricker: Here are some more statements supposedly from Pat Buchanan. Which of these were not actually said by him?

Should be a slam-dunk to demonstrate these quotes are false, if we were to immediately deride the false quote in the OP as being out of character for Pat Buchanan.

I believe we are discussing this thread with this cite in the OP.

I linked to a legitimate news station, which had a story that turned out to be false.

I realized it was false and apologized.

BrainGlutton links to a parody site which has a story that’s also false.

I was harshly criticized for not double-checking and finding other sources to confirm the story I posted.

No one, as of the time I posted here, has criticized BG for failing to double-check and confirming his story.

That seems unbalanced to me.

A poor grade from the teacher that taught you to summarize.

Please assess the tone, the vitriol, that appears in those two threads.

I did not know that WAFF TV was known for lying through its teeth.

But unions do have a history of aggressively defending their work territory from non-union incursion.

Granted, they did not in that thread. But I didn’t find the claim utterly unheard of. Just as, here, the claim that Pat B might say something racist is not beyond belief.

I wouldn’t be inclined to heap shit on BG for his error. I’m interested to see if anyone will acknowledge that roughly the same thing happened to me and I got a raft of shit over it.

EVENTUALLY.

I think that’s the big difference here: a lack of BrainGlutton posting multiple times, clinging to faint shreds of doubt and insisting that there might be the slightest bit of truth to the story, and that he could yet be vindicated.

Plus, this thread wasn’t posted to the pit, and the debunkings are held to a politer standard.

Not equivalent. The outrage in your op was because you thought they were putting union rules above human lives. If you could point to other instances where unions refused to allow non-unionized people provide aid in a disaster or national emergency, you could have had a point.

The story in this thread is unremarkable because Buchanan being a racist douchebag is unsurprising. A union letting people die when it could be avoided is not.

In cases of disaster relief? Gotta cite?

That is an extremely good point. The value of each story is much different. What if each had been true? Buchanan making racist, butthurt statements? Sigh and shake your head at the old dinosaur, 'cause it affects no one a bit. Unions denying help to people in a disaster? That is a goddamned crime, and people would suffer from it, and something should be done about it.

They’re just not comparable stories.

Awwwww. Is Bricker feeling butthurt? Awwwwwww.

My thread wasn’t posted to the Pit, either. It was moved there after the replies began to trend towards Pittyness.

And this post certainly seems to be BG defending his position:

You haven’t been around her long have you?

True, I’d forgotten about that. My apologies.

That quote was BG defending why he thought the story was real, not defending the idea that it might still actually BE real.

From what I can infer about the size of his belt, he’s got EVERYTHING under there.
