Buck Moon 2023

Here’s my photo of the full moon a couple of nights ago. working with a nearly drained camera battery, I couldn’t take all of the time and care I would have wished, but all in all I’m pleased.

Nice, where are you? I’m in mid west US and full moon was last night. According to the Luna Sol Cal app anyway.

Beautiful. I’m Midwest as well. That bright moon kept me awake for a bit.

Eugene, Oregon. This was taken a couple of miles out of town at Meadowlark Prairie Overlook.

The moon was at true full about 4:30am yesterday, so the previous evening was the optimal time for me to get the shot. By the time it rose yesterday it was already visibly waning, and it was too dark to get a good shot. I lack either the skill or the gear, or both, to get a good shot of the full moon when it’s fully dark.

I’m 50 miles West of St. Louis and my all said full at 6:40AM on Monday the 3rd. Just curious. Thanks

For my location, Sky Safari (a great stargazing/astronomy app btw) had 4:37AM PDT which means about the same time for both of us. I don’t know why there’s a three minute difference though. It says 6:47am for your location.

Latitude make a difference?

I don’t think so. You’re about four degrees south of me, but my app indicated the same time for both of us. If anything I would expect longitude to matter more, but again no, according to my app.

Our apps must be using different ways of measuring. Maybe true full is considered to last six minutes by some arbitrary standard, and your app takes the midpoint of that and mine takes the beginning. But I’m just spitballing here.

It’s science! I just don’t understand it though. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

When I looked straight up I saw stars but I only a smudge of light in the sky where the full moon should have been. Stoopit clouds! It would’ve been good as I was on the beach for it.
Here’s one from the beginning of the weekend before it was full

Nice! What kind of lens and focal length did you use?

Tamron 150-600 almost full out; even with that I cropped before posting.
