Bucket List, Do You Have One?

I don’t have one. The best things I’ve done are things I had never considered doing before they came up. I want to be surprised and delighted by the places I end up.

Put at working trial championship on my current pup.
Own a big wonderful grassy field in a quiet place, with a small easy-to-live-in cottage where we could live out our gimpy old lives without stairs.
Complete all the deferred maintenance on my house, and build a mudroom.
Probably in reverse order.

I don’t have any big urge to go see anything anywhere, but I’d like to visit some of my farther-flung friends. A couple have died while I was still thinking “someday soon”.

I’ve already gotten married, cleared my land and built my house on it, had my child & raised her well. Now I’m just fooling around.

My bucket list started as a bunch of blank spaces. I’ve filled some of them in, but I still have work to do.

Very few for me.

  1. Christmas Tree lighting at Rockefeller Center. Was going a year or two back, but, the gf gave me grief.
  2. Dealey Plaza on some Nov. 22, and take in the lectures, etc…
  3. Drive back to Vegas, going by the dam, and getting out and looking around, independent of a tour group.
These things are so lightweight, that if I don’t do them, no biggie, but, I sure want to do them. 1 and 2 are time specific, so, I will need to be very disciplined to pull these off.

I’m just about to cross off the second last one on my list. I figure when I’ve only got one thing left, it’s time for a new list

Mine did include a bunch of travel things (europe, asia, etc), and adventure/experience things (sky dive, bungy jump, scuba dive, etc) and a few personal things (have an RMB, own my own horse, etc).

My life has been nothing like how I envisioned it would unfold, but I still managed to do a lot of the things that I wanted to do. And I’m looking forward to writing a new list soon (which is really just an excuse to dream big and think about what appeals to me)

Never formally sat down and made a list of Things I Want To Do Before I Die but I had dreams just like everyone else.

By the time I was 35 I had done all but one of them. (The unfilled one was “go into space and return safely”). Around 40 I started thinking of new things to do.

Then I lost my middle-class job and now it’s really mundane stuff like “pay my bills for the month AND be able to save $10 a week”. OK, I have stuff more interesting than that, but even though I’m not quite 50 I’m… sort of content not being terribly ambitious for awhile. There are lots of things I’m interested in but nothing I’m passionate about the way I used to be about things like traveling to Europe or flying a biplane. Maybe I’m just focused on getting my stuff together after the shock of the Great Depression. I do sometimes missed the highs from reaching a long desired goal but… I really have done most everything on my to do list fairly early in life.

Get my kids through college, buy land, build shack, exist.

Re: post #26, that should be Great Recession, not Great Depression. I have to wonder if autocorrect struck again or if it was a subconscious slip.
