Bud Cort RIP

He was probably most famous for Harold and Maude but he will always be the voice of the Computer in Electric Dreams to me.

I was about to start a thread, and post this:

I also liked Brewster McCloud. Early Altman and very weird. I hadn’t seen in many decades, but saw it again about a year ago. Enjoyed it more than I expected, too, after all that time.

Damn. They used to show Harold and Maude four times a year at the Blue Mouse theater in Salt Lake City. Once every time they put out a new schedule.

Harold and Maude is probably my favorite movie of all time. Definitely in my top three.

This makes me very sad.

RIP Walter (aka Bud).

One of the crazier aspects of Cort’s career: he was originally supposed to be the effective star of the documentary Pumping Iron.

The original idea for the documentary was to have a seemingly average guy (i.e. Cort) begin to train with professional bodybuilders; you would then hopefully watch him transform into a muscle man over the course of a couple of hours.

Cort actually did train with Arnold Schwarzenegger for a while but he eventually decided he didn’t want to continue. The filmmakers by that point had realized that they already had their movie in front of them, in the form of the relationships and rivalries between the various bodybuilders training to compete at Mr. Olympia (Schwarzenegger, Franco Columbu, Lou Ferrigno).

Sad to hear. Harold and Maude is probably my #1 or #2 favorite comedy of all time. Seen it at least a dozen times.

His Wiki page is sadly sparce.

RIP Bud.

Too late, Boone, you killed him.

Harold and Maude is one of my favorite movies, too. This is sad. RIP Bud.

Harold and Maude is an excellent movie that I need to rewatch. I’ll also mention his 1987 series the Bates Motel. He was a fellow patient who befriended Norman, then inherited his hotel. I do have it on DVD but haven’t watched it yet. This weekend might be in honor of Bud Cort.

I watched the Bates Motel when it aired and recall it was kind of a mix between the Love Boat and Twilight Zone.

If you haven’t seen But I’m a Cheerleader (Film) - TV Tropes, check it out.

Well, damn. Did not know he was 77. Oldish, I guess? Maybe not a great run, but a good one.

I “know” (as in, “I think I remember from random stuff I read about him on line”) far more about Bud Cort as an actor and a human than simply his role as Harold in Harold and Maude, and all of it is pretty cool. Maybe I’ll post more later, if I confirm the accuracy of my recollections and no one beats me to it.

Anyway … thanks, Bud. Good actor, good man, excellent human.

You beat me to it. Cort plays Megan’s (Natasha Lyonne’s) father in that one. Fun to see him again so many years after Harold and Maude; and yeah, I can see the resemblance to Harold, even after decades.

Sad news. I enjoyed Harold and Maude, and still do, but he had a nice catalog of work, and did well in everything.

Thanks, Bud. Rest well.

Same here. RIP Bud.
