Buffet's ''Come Monday'' - alternate version?

In the Jimmy Buffet song “Come Monday”, there’s this line:

“I got my Hush Puppies on,
I guess I never was meant for glitter rock & roll.”

Back in the pre-CD 80’s, I bought a 45 of this song. When I put it on the line had been changed to:

“I got my hiking boots on…”

Has this version appeared anywhere else? I’m guessing there was some copyright infingement problem involved.

Any Parrotheads shed some light?

So, after digging a little deeper, the version I have is the British radio version. Apparently, you can’t advertise a product in a song whethe it’s intentional or not.

Still, how did I end up getting the British version in the US?

Many record stores have an “import” section. Perhaps some worker at the store simply misfiled the record. BTW, I’m glad you solved your own problem because I’ve only heard the “Hush Puppies” version and this would have bothered me to no end.

I’ve never heard the “hiking boots” version; only the “Hush Puppies” version, and I live in the States.

I didn’t know you couldn’t mention name brands in songs; that makes no sense. I’ve read stories with Coke instead of soda, Rice Krispies in place of cereal, etc. You see product placement on TV and in movies all the time.

My post is no help, I know. Just surprised at the alternate version and the reasoning behind it.

This is apparently a British thing. According to a Paul Simon website, the BBC wouldn’t play “Kodachrome”, because of this rule!

To cap this whole thing off, here’s what’s on the 45 itself:

“Come Monday” b/w “Saxophones”
MCA Records (the light blue “clouds w/rainbow” style label)
D-2687

Around the bottom of the label:
©1980 MCA Records, Inc. MFG By MCA Records, Inc 70 Universal Plaza Universal City, Calif 91608

There is no indication that this is or shoul be a UK release.

Just one of those things I guess.
