Yeah, but there was that big bloody rack and other stuff that wasn’t there when Andrew stuck Jonathan. Not hard to guess that whoever came by later probably carted the body off after they were done shooting their rock video.
If he was, wouldn’t Giles know?
Miller. I get the episode 32 hrs before it’s aired in the US. I think it’s basic courtesy to use the box. If no one agrees with me, I’ll stop using the damned things, but I got slammed at the beginning of the season for not using them.
This is the Buffyverse, and there is always a major plot twist in ep.10. If someone had tried to hug Giles and found out about him being Morphy!Giles, that would’ve been it. If all the audience is wary and are saying… Whoa, wait a minute… He didn’t this or that, I bet that we’re being set up.
The two SIT’s that are not Willow’s love interest were way to whiney and scared. These are supposed to be potential slayers? WTF. Remember Kendra. So her superpowers kicked in, when Buffy died. But she was so assertive and strong mentally.
Remember where you read this first (I’m not spoiled here, just my own ideas): Xander will try to hit on the SIT which is Willow’s love interest to create humerous tension relief. (she’s yummy!)
I agree with Pepper that there were a couple of continuity breaks. No big deal, though.
So we still don’t know what’s up with Principal Wood. :sigh: Me thinks it’s getting a bit annoying. DB Woodside does a good job of playing this ambiguous character, though.
TFE coming out of Willow… Great scare. Good effect.
I doubt it. The Council fired Giles for siding with the Slayer, and only re-hired him at Buffy’s insistance. They regularly kept secrets from Buffy, literally right up until the very end. I’ve no doubt they’re also keeping secrets from each other. This was not a hugely forthcoming group of people.
Gaspode: No, I understand that you get the episodes quite a bit earlier than most people. And I hate you for it. But I think it’s granted that when you see a thread called “Buffy 12/17/02 Bring on the night,” inside it I will find spoilers about the episode titled “Bring on the night” that airs on 12/17/02. If you’re really concerned, you can just say Spoilers in the thread title. Which I see you’ve already done for this thread. At this point, the spoiler boxes are really incredibly redundant.
On top of that, I don’t know if what’s in the box is a spoiler for tonight’s episode, which I can read safely after I’ve seen the episode, or if it also contains spoilers for future episodes. Like, “Did you notice the chair Andrew was tied to? I’ll bet that’s the Mystic Chair of Zuumba that they’re going to use to kill the First Evil in the season finale!” So either I don’t read the spoiler boxes and miss out on the debate, or I do read the spoiler boxes and possibly get spoiled. Obviously not a dilemma of cosmic proportions, but still a bit of a concern.
Maybe you should avoid the threads altogether, Miller, if it’s such a complicated issue for you.
I think we’ve all been around long enough to know people are going to talk about the episode the thread is named after.
However, I hardly think it matters, since these threads rather quickly boil down to conjecture that could easily be brought up weeks beforehand.
So what about Wood? Evi? A minion? What if he God to evil’s Evil?
Giles? DOn’t know, but it kept me up for a while wondering and worrying.
Slayerettes? No big. Seem pretty pointless. I mean, they are 14-15 year-old girls, like Dawn, but even she has seen nastier stuff and let’s not forget about the trauma of having their Watchers and the whole of the council wiped out.
And still, I can’t figure out what it is with you people and these acronyms. SITs? TPTB? Geez.
My reaction to the episode was “wow”.
That’s the Buffy I remember.
9/10.
I’m just lasy
I can’t be bother to write ‘slayers-in-training’ and ‘The powers that be’ the whole time. YMMV :evil grin:

Please keep using them. Those of us that are spoiler free are greatful.

The Principal is the same situation as Spike earlier- nor sure if he is good, evil or just being controlled. I have my guess, but its just that. I agree, the actor is doing a great job with this role.

The effect was pretty cool-- seems like the TFE is really worried about Willow’s ability with magic.
Good episode, of course. I’m also thinking that Giles is the First. Which, implies that the real Giles is dead (and it certainly seems likely).
However, we only have “Giles’s” word on that. He may be lying. Is there any contradiction to the assertion that the First can only manifest as dead people? Maybe. Three known manifestations were Spike, Drusilla, and Buffy. All are currently walking around (I seem to recall Drusila was last seen alive, but no matter). On the downside, Spike and Drusilla are both vampires (i.e., dead), and Buffy used to be dead. So maybe it proves nothing.
Another point: does the First manifest in dreams? If not, then maybe Buffy’s mom is an ally.
Philosophical point: If there is a First Evil, shouldn’t there be a First Good? If so, will that come into play?
“Well, not exactly the St. Crispin’s Day speech, was it?”
I was thinking that at the time too, RealityChuck (the quote).
But also remember what “Giles” said? he said “people who have died,” not people who are dead.
Giles didn’t take the files out of the backpack.
Giles walked through a door behind Buffy, and Buffy closed it.
Nobody hugged Giles.
I really, really really hope that this is some kind of elaborate fake-out …
I did like the shades of Old Snarky Spike, despite the fact that I do NOT like watching him get the sh*t beat out of him.
“Never figured you for existential thought, luv. I mean, you hated Paris …”
heee…
Am I the only person who thought Buffy’s speech was a wee bit … trite? Sappy? Not particularily believable?
BobKitty: “So if we’re going to go with the theory that he is a manifestation of The First,”
Not to toot my own horn or anything, but like that Army commercial that played during football games, I made the call. From 11-20-2002: “Btw, I think he (Giles) ought to bite it. Sorry, but to do otherwise is a cheat and I think that this could turn into an interesting turn of events. I agree that a dead Giles would play as another stooge for Morphy - all the better if nobody knows he’s dead!! Morphy resumes Gile’s life and then Giles makes it over to LA … a*hem!.. Sunnydale as part of Morphy’s plan.”
I’m not right often, but I’ll let everybody know when I am!
RealityChuck"Well, not exactly the St. Crispin’s Day speech, was it?"
“We few, we happy few. We band of buggered.”
pure I too was waiting for Giles to pick something up. I agree with pepperlandgirl though - we are probably being misdirected.
No one has commented yet on Spike speech to Dru. "She believes in me. " C’mon, that was a great scene. He was lucid and really said what he wanted to say.
Wild speculation ahead
And, although I know it would never happen in the Joss world, I had a thought that maybe Spike’s actions here, with the first, would lead to some final “something” by the demon he got his soul back from and he would become mortal. Then you know, finale, happily ever after…
Feel free to take the credit for that… I’m still working up my anger at ME to a fever pitch for potentially killing off the hottest, sexiest actor on the show.
Arisu… don’t forget he didn’t help Buffy out of the hole after the 1st fight with uber-vamp, when he was standing right there.
Miller… I thought the Ripper show was to be set pre-Buffy. So Giles could technically be dead, and we could still have Ripper.
One last thing… I hate not being able to have crossovers. How easy would all this be if they could say “Hey, let’s get the LA gang involved, maybe they have some idea!” ::grumble::

Could Principal Wood work for Wolfman & Hart?
I would advise anyone who is wondering about the Giles question to pay a visit to the Spoiler Slayer, which does seem to be carrying the shocking revelation.
Warning–there will be major spoilers there for a crapload of future episodes. If you want to watch an unspoiled Buffy, do not go there.
I’m thinking Principal Wood is either TFG or God himself. The way the actor plays the role its as if he’s not worried about what’s coming. We all know he knows something. But it’s as if Principal Wood views TFE as his stupid little brother.
The whole ‘mystery’ speech had such a deity feel about it - like he was basically telling Buffy he knew everything and it was up to her to get to the bottom of it. And the smile at the end of the speech? I immediately felt like he was laughing at some private joke on TFE. It was like, “You idiot. My creations are still strong enough to defeat you on their own.” It felt so fatherly to me.
Of course, I could be reading way too much into the whole thing.
I guess I don’t really understand how the world can run out of potential Slayers. Is there some genetic aspect to potential Slayerness? Can’t TPTB just decide that anyone they want is a Slayer?
There was one name conspicuously left off the list of potential Slayers: Dawn. Since she’s made out of Buffy, she has (or should have) the same Slayer potential. I’ve advanced the theory for several weeks now that the season/series finale is going to involve Buffy’s somehow losing her Slayer powers and Dawn’s being called, with Principal Wood being her Watcher. Since this episode clearly establishes that potential Slayers are assigned Watchers, it makes perfect sense that Robin Wood was assigned to Dawn. I understand that based on the lineage Faith would have to die as well for Buffy to be called, but since Eliza Dushku is appearing in several episodes this season there’s plenty of time to bump her off (something I would hate, BTW, but something I think is in the cards). ME needs to be careful with Dawn’s characterization. Last night she tried to come off like a badass with Sleeping Beauty (Andrew) but came off petulant instead.
An interesting question, which has been the source of mild annoyance to me. This recap sums up some of my frustration on the issue ( but I’m not quite as down on this episode overall as this bitter duo- I enjoyed watching Buffy get her ass kicked for example ) :
