Buffy made me cry tonight (4/17/01 Spoilers))

Yes, you read right. I don’t usually get sentimental about fiction. Especially not on television. Especially not fantasy or SF.

But Buffy is the best-written show on television, and among the best-acted too. I’ve known these characters for five years now, and in many ways they’re as real and well-rounded as anyone I know IRL.

So when Buffy had her meltdown with Dawn during the last ten minutes of tonight’s show, I cried right along with her. Even though I’ve never lost a parent or anyone else close to me. Even though I’ve never had a younger sibling to take care of. Didn’t matter. Joss, Marti and Sarah Michelle put me right inside Buffy’s head, and I felt her pain, and the tears came a-tricklin’.

Hang in there, Buffy. It’ll get better. You too, Dawn.

Yup. sniff Another great episode. I especially liked the way they avoided the whole “Monkey’s Paw” scenario tastefully, while referencing it through the entire episode. I was horrified that we might actually see Joyce come back, even momentarily. But I shoulda known they wouldn’t do that to us.

And I gotta admit… I like Spike.
