Yes, you read right. I don’t usually get sentimental about fiction. Especially not on television. Especially not fantasy or SF.
But Buffy is the best-written show on television, and among the best-acted too. I’ve known these characters for five years now, and in many ways they’re as real and well-rounded as anyone I know IRL.
So when Buffy had her meltdown with Dawn during the last ten minutes of tonight’s show, I cried right along with her. Even though I’ve never lost a parent or anyone else close to me. Even though I’ve never had a younger sibling to take care of. Didn’t matter. Joss, Marti and Sarah Michelle put me right inside Buffy’s head, and I felt her pain, and the tears came a-tricklin’.
Hang in there, Buffy. It’ll get better. You too, Dawn.
