I saw Spike flinch and duck down once he stepped into the direct sunlight (all of which we see from a distance because we are supposed to be looking at the recently deceased Buffinanners at the bottom of the screen). Immediately before it cuts to the close-up of Spike, it looks like some sunlight is still glancing off of his ever-so-platinum do. But, once we see his close-up, there are no signs of bright sunlight hitting him. It is just as if he were walking around Buffy’s house during daylight hours. He is well lit, but not on fire because it’s not direct sunlight.
I choose to believe that we did not see Spike smoking after his brief moments in the sun because it was not extremely important to the scene. Imagine, Spike gets hit by some sunlight and starts smoking while most of America is staring at the late Miss Summers. Then, we see his tearful reaction, but – oh my God, Spike’s on fire – how terribly confusing that would seem.
By the by, I am an expert. I happened to tape the episode and watched this moment over and over again to see if my boy Spike could stand the light.
I wonder if Buffy will not have to be brought back at all. She may just be having one of those dream type sequences in the new opening. I mean, the gravestone is just sitting there… could it be in her mind… or limbo…? Buffy comes walking up to it and says, “nope, not gonna die” and then cut back to her lying there and everyone weeping, then POOF she breathes and is back in her body gasping for air. Or is that too stupid… I wouldn’t put it past them to try it.
Zippy, that’s not stupid at all! That actually sounds like a pretty feasible Buffy episode… but I don’t think it’s going to be that way for the UPN season opener.
The next show is going to be a HUGE deal, I’m sure. I bet it’s going to take someone realizing that Buffy can be saved and then everyone breaking their knecks to go about saving her. I wonder if it will pick up just where the finale left off or if she’ll have been in “dead” for awhile?
But you know what? I wonder if one of the cast will die to save Buffy at the start of next season? I’m telling you I dearly love Spike the Flame-Retardant, but I think his number is coming up. He can’t stay a good vampire for much longer. Sucks.
zippy, not a bad hypothesis, but it can’t work here. Willow went down to L.A. to tell Angel. That means time passed, and that means Buffy didn’t wake up gasping for breath.
It doesn’t air here for another hour (yes, I couldn’t resist reading the spoilers Wednesday morning - and for the record, I was RIGHT on who was going to die), but I thought I’d throw some comments out anyway.
In addition to the comments that Trion posted, Joss Whedon also posted this:
Also, in the E! Online interview, he said that he’s had this planned since the middle of the third season.
Just wanted to point out that it’s been in the works for a long time, it’s been well planned, and hopefully it won’t have a really cheesy conclusion in the fall. Really, after two and a half years of planning, I’d be pretty disappointed if he did a whole “Dallas” dream thing happening.
We just got to watch the finale here today while Angel aired on Thursday night. By the end of Angel we knew something had happened to the Buffmeister. I am realy hoping the Fred sticks around, I can see her hooking up with Wesley. And can I say how happy I was to see that Lorne didn’t die?
On to Buffy…
Buffy will be back. It’s just the “how” that will keep us wondering all summer. The Buffy-bot came in handy to further weaken Glory after Willow’s little brain draining exercise.
Spike’s redemption seems fairly complete and it would appear that he has regained his soul through his selfless and honourable actions. Love is a powerful force indeed. Maybe now they can take that chip from his head so can break out some whupass on evil mortals too. I don’t think he could even harm Xander
Kudos to Giles for doing what had to be done. He rocks.
Willow is really coming into her own and I can see her using more of her newfound power in the battle against evil. She is definately a “big gun”.
Xander and Anya are just too adorable together aren’t they?
My idea after seeing the episode was that this business of Dawn having been somehow created out of Buffy might be the answer. Perhaps, I thought, they will make a new Buffy out of Dawn? But then would Dawn still exist? But having read this thread, I’m a convert to the idea that portals to other demensions are the solution. She’s in some hell-demension. They’ll open the right portal, have adventures searching for her, bring her back.
Say,Willow sure has gotten really powerful. Isn’t it time she turned that mouse back into a human?
Just thought you might like to read this interview with Whedon on TVGuide Online. Note, it may be spoilerish–not much–but if you want to be COMPLETELY surprised next season, otherwise, it answers a few of the queries in this thread. (Like Gellar’s contract through Season seven…)
Well, I’ll be damned. So Anthony Stewart Head really will be starring in a BBC spinoff of Buffy, and won’t be a regular on Buffy next season. That’s really cool on one level, and really a shame on another. I’ll miss him. I wonder if/when we’ll be able to see his show here in the States?
I’m the biggest buffy addict in the world, and I’m even distressed over this whole Buffy’s dead thing, but here’s what we’ve (we being EVERYONE in my class who watches the show, my mom and my sister) come up with: Angel has been into other dementions before, he’s going to go get her and bring her back.
