Buffy Spinoff

I’m not a big TV guy, but I was a big Buffy fan, and it sucks that the show got cancelled (even if it was going down hill now). I’ve read in several places that there may be another spinoff- although that may just be the fanboys wishing. Anyway, just wondering what anyone thought would make a good spinoff.

The further adventures of the Lesbian UberWitch?
Xander - Punching Bag for hire?
Faith’s nekkid Adventures?

My piggish suggestions aside- any ideas?

I’ve always suggested a Kung Fu like show following Faith. She is (or at least was) the most compelling character left. Starting again around a new slayer could work but would be a pretty empty exercise. If it’s Kennedy The Vampire Slayer, it’s flamethrower time.

There will not be a spinoff in timte for the Fall or as a midseason replacement next year.

After that, who knows? Eliza Dushku has signed to star in another series, so no spinoff for her.

It’s difficult to imagine a spinoff with other characters, since we now live in a world with thousands of slayers.

There could easily be a spin-off where the Scoobies travel around finding the new Slayers and teaching them who they are and what their fate is now. All they need is a Mystery Machine.

So uh… whatever happened to Ripper?

I still want Joss to build a new show centered around an Oz who is now fully in control of his werewolf side. It’d be easy to write, 'cause there’d be so little dialogue. Viz:

Oz as werewolf: AROOO! GRowl! Argh! <SMASH>

Oz as Human: :dubious:

See? That’s your complete pilot script, right there.

“Ripper” went off the radar there for a while for a couple reasons. First, Whedon was spread pretty thin already with three U.S. showsSecond, Tony Head has been successful with Manchild over in the UK, so he may not have time for Ripper. Third, there were problems connected to the differences between a typical U.S. series of 20+ episodes a season and the UK practice of having around a half-dozen. Whedon wanted to design Ripper in the UK mold, but the studio didn’t like the idea because it would make it nearly impossible to syndicate.

Of course, I think these problems may be ameliorated somewhat now – Whedon now has one show, not three (and maybe not that one much longer), I don’t know if Manchild is still going, and the increasing prominance of TV shows on DVD might make the shorter seasons more palatable. But what do I know?

Leaving out which actors might be available, I still think there could be stories to tell about Faith and about Willow. Dawn and Xander could fit in as supporting characters, but neither of those have interesting stories in them. Giles do, of course, but with which supporting actors?

I think it’s a good idea to let the franchise rest and concentrate on Ats for a season. Maybe that gets cancelled after S.5 and maybe Dushku’s show flops. Then, there might be ideas and energy to round up some of the characters and see if there is another show that could be made. I seriously doubt it would be “X, the Vampire slayer” but it could certainly take place in the Buffyverse, for lack of better labels.

Hey, two of my predictions for S7 came true- Spike was the Little Bad, (though not for the reasons I thought he would be) and there is no longer a one and only Chosen One- there are now Slayers all over the world…

Anyhoo, I had envisioned a Spike-centered spinoff, but that probably won’t happen now. Maybe once we see how his character is further developed on AtS next season, I’ll rethink whether I believe this is a good idea. But maybe Dawn discovering that she really does have powers related to her former Key-ness, maybe an ability to open dimensional portals or something… nah, too Sliders.

Right now, I can’t envision a spinoff. Willow is really too powerful a witch to be a title character, and she would be one of my top picks for having a spinoff set around her. Evil shows up, Willow casts a spell, poof, no more evil. It would last maybe one season. I would see her in more of a supporting role, possibly as a recurring rather than a regular character, called in from wherever she’s living a semi-hermit kind of a lifestyle when they need to bring out the magickal heavy artillery.

But, really, any spinoff worth watching would have to include Spike and…

Clem!

If they do a spinoff, I wouldn’t mind seeing a show kind of like “League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”, which would include charachters from both Buffy and Angel.

Hmm…let’s see. It could include:

Spike, the human who was a vampire.
Connor, the child of two vampires(with super strength).
Gwen, the electric girl.

Any other suggestions of good side-characters to join the “League”?

Xander, Buffy, Willow, and Dawn could join the crew of the Firefly.

Or a show where every week one of the potentials dies at the end.

Who’s Conner?

Connor? He’s Angel’s son. He and Gwen come from AtS.

Connor was born of Darla(who was ressurected as a human and re-vamped by Drusilla) and Angel. Long story.

Any Willow spinoff would have to mention Kennedy, and that would ruin it right from the start.

But what if the “mention” was that she died in an auto-erotic act gone wrong? Would it work then?

Unless the mention was Willow saying: “I killed Kennedy because she couldn’t act and was annoying as hell.” That kind of mention I could live with.

But Kennedy is cuuuute!

I’d love to see a show about Riley and Sam Finn, “Nick and Nora Fury” as Xander called 'em. Call it “The Initiative.”

As for the other Scoobies–either do a movie, with Buffy, or let it go.

So, let me update. I’d like to see a LXG version of Buffy with:

Spike, the human who was a vampire.
Connor, the child of two vampires(with super strength).
Gwen, the electric girl.
Kennedy, killed by Willow but now a zombie.
Samm Finn, widower with a vengeance.
Andrew, the Summoner.

Dang! I actually want to see this show.

Whoosh!
