Buffy The Musical on CD!

Joss Whedon’s magical score from the musical episode of BtVS will be released on CD 9/24. Info!

Joss Whedon has a great future ahead of him as a Broadway composer once he tires of writing TV series (His new show on Fox, Firefly, looks pretty good).

Wonder if we’re ever going to have Firefly: The Musical…

I loved the musical. I thought it was great in every way, within the context of what he was doing.

BUT…

the thing I HATE about the musical, and the reason I will KILL anyone who plays it in my hearing, is that EVERY FUCKING TIME I watch it, the songs get soldered into my brain cells and it takes me a week at least to shake them out. I have no idea why they are so incredibly sticky, but it’s incredibly annoying.

Let me rest in peace! Let me get some sleep!
Let me take my love and bury it in a hole six foot deep!
I can lay my body down but I can’t find my sweet release!
So let me rest in peace! *

Bwa-ha-ha-ha!

I’m thoroughly amazed at Wheadon’s massive talents. The songs and lyricsreally work, not only in context, but as musical numbers. Even if some of the actors should’ve been dubbed with better singers. I agree with Gobear.

Too bad Wheadon will be robbed of yet another Emmy. For “Once more with feeling” he very much deserves it, as I think that it’s not only stylish and a good musical, but very much pushing the envelope for what can be done on TV.

I think this line is mostly filler.

Cool! I’m going to look for it tonight on the way home.

I think my favorite part is Anya’s bunny rant.

Bunnies aren’t just cute like everybody supposes!
They’ve got them hoppy legs and twitchy little noses!
And what’s with all the carrots?
What do they need such good eyesight for anyway?
Bunnies!
Bunnies!
It must be bunnies!
(Pyrotechnics.)
…Or maybe midgets.

The moon to the tide
I can feel you inside
I’m under your spell
Surging like the sea
Wanting you so helplessly
I break with every swell
Lost in ecstasy
Spread beneath my willow tree
You make me com-plete
You make me com-plete
You make me com-plete

The torch I bear is scorching me
Buffy’s laughing, I’ve no doubt.
I hope she fries, I’m free if that bitch dies–
I better help her out.

I’ll be eagerly anticipating buying this and driving friends and family nutty with endless repetition and pseudo-karaoke, but my word, could no one have come up with more attractive cover art?

Oh, and on the topic of the musical, can someone please pop in the lyrics that the Demon sings during the “Tonight”-like overlapping portions of “Walk Through the Fire”? The bits from where he’s down in the corner of the screen while everyone else is singing lines like “She came from the grave much graver” and the like. I watched the last time it was broadcast with closed captioning on but those lyrics weren’t captioned (and there were some glaring errors in other captions so I wouldn’t have trusted them anyways).
