This thread is killing my browser. The rendering is completely screwed up.
It might just be a problem with my browser, I’m using IE 4.0 on Windows 98. But it seems I ought to be able to look at text and images without the browser window completely corrupted (including the toolbar and menus!). Perhaps there’s something wrong with the DHTML?
I saw a cock-a-roach behind the water heater.
That thread also reliably kills Netscape 4.5 on linux and Digital Unix, unless I stop the animations before I scroll down to that damn post full of smilies.
I think we can blame this one on crappy browsers.
I loaded the thread in both IE5.0 and Netscape 4.7 with Windows 95 and didn’t have a problem. I don’t think there is anything wrong with the thread itself. I don’t know what could be happening, but it doesn’t seem to do anything wrong on my system.
Sorry, can’t help much.
Jim
All the other general purpose whining complaint threads seem to have (mercifully) sunk down the list, so I’m going to post this here in the official “bug” thread, although it isn’t really a bug.
Tuba, it just irritates the heck out of me that when you’re dealing with a multiple-page thread, while you’re posting a reply, the only way to Review Topic is to go back to the first page, thus creating a whole nother window, and then load up the second page. And then, finally, you can look at it.
The line “this thread is a long thread. Click here to review” ought to have an option of which page you want to load and review, even if you can’t put it in a regular “review topic” upside-down/backwards format. It would save time, to not have to trudge through the whole thing. Usually you know which page it was that you wanted to comment on.
I vaguely remember somebody already mentioning it, and I also vaguely remember that there’s a good reason why it can’t do the whole 2 pages upside-down and backwards in Review topic. That’s OK, I would just like to be able to load the second or third page or whatever, directly.
The techs are seeing all your comments and complaints and we’re working on making this a better experience for everyone.
It’s not happening as swiftly as we would like, but it IS happening.
(In fact, compared to what we went through the last time we changed message board software, this is the quintessential walk in the spring rain.)
Of course, that’s no consolation to those of you that can’t sign in, or those that can’t make posts, or those that keep getting those stupid screens that say “not a member” when of course they are. . . etc.
For those that are having serious and severe problems, please come talk to me personally, send me email. If any of you know somebody that can’t read this, please pass the information along.
We need the following information from you, please:
- The nature of your problem. (Can’t sign in, can’t stay in, can’t make posts, etc.)
- What kind of computer you have: make/model/RAM/hd.
- Your operating system, complete with version #.
- The browser(s) you use, complete with version #.
- How you connect to us.
Somewhere in all of that is probably the solution to your problem.
As far as system refinements go, all things in time, folks. Let’s make sure everybody has hymnals before we start calling other songs out of the book, okay?

Did anybody else notice that the boards haven’t crashed since Saturday? Or am I dreaming?
Not even the usual 2-4 p.m. slowdown.
What ARE you feeding the hamster? No, I don’t wanna know…
