Bugles are 50 Years Old!

I’ll buy Bugles a couple times a year, for variety with lunch sammiches.

As I remember it, Chipsters came out about the same time. I love Chipsters! They’re the thing I most look forward to on any visit to France, where they’re still sold. And for the right price, I guess I can even get them shipped here, which I may do sometime.

As I ate my last box last month (I’d squeezed three into my luggage in December), I wondered how they’re made and whether the same (presumably simple) process used to produce ruedas AKA chicharrones de harina could be used with a potato paste to produce something very similar.

I’d be careful with those. They’re probably the same ones being discussed in the OP…

Best to have the experiences on consecutive days, so as to be more prepared to make a valid comparison.

I like the ranch ones …and yes they changed them a bit here and there but my faves are nacho ranch and original they did have a bbq and cheese flavor for a bit tho …

I like the way you think, and am interested in subscribing to your newsletter.

As a kid I loved bugles. It’s possible that it had something to do with being able to put them on your fingers. Then they seemed to disappear from this area for a couple of decades or so. In the last decade+ they are back in all the convenience stores. I don’t have the same love I used to have but every now and then I’ll get a craving for them.

Are you suggesting Bugles and dip aren’t suited for *après-*sex? :dubious:

I’ve also always like Bugles, but they are terribly greasy. It’s like a once a year treat for me now. A bunch of years ago I was at a home show at the Long Beach Convention Center with a couple of my sister’s co-workers. They’d both grown up in the southern US and remembered a door-to-door spice vendor (somebody & somebody…I’ve tried googling but it beat me). This vendor was at the show, and they had samples of their cajun spice mixed into sour cream and served with Bugles. OMG, it was so good.

Does anybody know the spice company I’m referring to? I absolutely cannot remember the name.

For some weird reason it seems my original posts are appearing in my Notifications list, as if someone did a database restoration from the last of the old platform’s archives.

And, after reading the 47 lively responses to my 2016 opener, it occurs to me that not a single one actually answered the question that was asked. :person_pouting:t4:

Interesting… what I remember was that they really pushed Daisies, with Whistles and Bugles as secondary. Mainstream marketing on TV. After a couple years, Daisies had disappeared…Whistles persisted a bit longer, and Bugles were the ones that lasted into the present era.

Somebody here on the board recommended Caramel Bugles, and after much searching, I found a bag. Holy cow, they were great! The sweetness completely negated the over-saltiness. I’ve never seen them again though, luckily, as I have very little willpower.
