Buick Regal - crap suspension?

So, Buick has a commercial for (I’m pretty sure) the Regal. Wife is putting away groceries, husband helps a bit, then grabs an orange soda out of the bag. When he opens it, it sprays him, and he asks if she took his car again.

She verifies it, and we cut to the Buick going fast around curves.

Hell, our '97 Grand Voyager with basically no shocks or struts could drive that road without shaking up the can enough to spray all over on opening.

Anecdotally based on my 99 regal gs, everything on that car sucks except it does accelerate real nice for an old man looking car.

define “crap” suspension. Just because it’s firmer than you might expect doesn’t make it “crap.” GM is trying to position Buick as a mid-luxury/performance brand, so yes, they’re making the handling tighter and the suspension firmer.

yeah, sure, whatever. if you even attempted it, it would come with tires squealing all over the place, horrendous understeer and enough body roll to make you seasick.

ETA:

it’s not 1999 anymore.

A crap suspension is one where, if you drive on a highway, your pop gets so shook up that it sprays all over. Now, if it had been a Jeep commercial and showed her coming home cross country, I might think about buying the vehicle.

My point, actually. The difference being, I could still safely open a can of pop afterwards (assuming I hadn’t rolled the van cornering too fast).

Moved Cafe Society --> IMHO.

Highways are flat and smooth, if you’re only driving in a straight line it doesn’t matter much how stiff the suspension is. The only way you would shake up the pop is if the car had been executing a series of sharp manoeuvres that would have tossed the pop around the back of the car, such as one is wont to do with a sporty car like the Regal. Maybe the ad is targeted at people who understand how suspension works.

Doesn’t discussion of the suspension of Buick Regal belong in About This Message Board?

No it isn’t 1999 anymore but I’ve owned 4 different Buicks in my life and every one was a nightmare of unreliability, rust, and poor performance.

Maybe they magically got their act together after the bailout and but I’m not going to be the guinea pig.

there’s nothing “magic” about it.

I have not seen the commercial in question, but yeah, Buick is marketing the new Regal as a performance car. They even have a Turbo package. So, you wouldn’t get the traditional Buick suspension tuning, which is the effect of gliding on air. They *want *you to feel every bump in the road.

I found the ad

That particular model has active suspension too.
