I would like to build a housing for a globe, but need a globe to put into it. Where can I purchase just-a-globe? Is there anyplace that one can get a replacement for an outdated globe? It seems like people would do updating with geopolitical changes around the world.

For some reason, I misread your post as building a stand for a globe-like object.
My google skills didn’t turn up any just-a-globe suppliers. You might consider trying to get a good deal on a globe from an auction site like ebay and removing the old stand.
Could you buy a globe that has a housing, and then discard the housing and keep the globe, and then make your own housing for it?
(I have a strong feeling that I – and possibly others – have no idea what your problem is, or what you’re trying to accomplish.)

However, I wouldn’t be able to make the globe itself. I figured that people who buy expensive globes might get them updated once in a while, and that if I could find the source that they use, I could buy one for my little project while doing the woodwork myself.
Does that clarify things?
(Yes, I could buy one with the housing and discard it, but I was hoping to not be wasteful about it. If it comes down to it, that’s what I will do.)
