I just have a P3 - 400, Voodoo3, 128Meg RAM, 36x CD-ROM, 8x4x32 CD-burner and D2 runs just fine but does some occasional glitches. The worst was when it spontaneously dropped out to the desktop, which meant that the unique broadsword I had left on the ground disappeared. Why’d I leave it on the ground? I had no room for it and wanted to give it to my hireling (this unique is ethereal) but my Iron Wolf couldn’t use it. Had to wait to be able to hire Barb.
Spoofe, add an exhaust fan or two. I had a severe overheating problem a couple of years ago and now have a pair of exhaust fans (one front, one rear) in my case.
