The Stormfront board got mentioned in a GD thread. So, I just hopped on there to have a look. Ignoring the content, I liked the quote-box that appears. Looks better aesthetically than here. So, I notice they’re using vB 3.0.0, as opposed to vB 2.2.8 here.
Are there any plans to upgrade this board?
Is it possible to have those kind of quote boxes in the vB version in use here?
The quote box they use is in the current version, no need to upgrade. Just a different color choice.
I personally like the grey better than the purple, but perhaps that’s just me repressing my feminine side
We will probably at some point upgrade, but the tendency here is not to be a “first adapter.”
This is actually good for you, as every upgrade of vB we have ever seen was buggy as it could be and we’ve had some struggles with every upgrade we’ve taken on. It’s the nature of the beast, I suppose. Because of this and the resultant rise in complaining from our Teeming Millions when things don’t go right, we prefer to wait and let someone else find the bugs before our users do.
But yes, we will doubtless upgrade at some point. It’s just not the highest thing on Jerry’s “To Do” list right now. I’m sure you can understand.

I guess I didn’t say it clearly enough.
There’s no need to wait for a software upgrade.
The level we are at now allows a different background color for quotes. I believe there is also a choice for bars top-and-bottom like we have here or top-and-left like on that other board.
But, having said that, I also prefer what we already have. I think the extra color is overkill in making the quote stand out.
I like quotes to scan with the rest of the text rather than appear like an illustration.
But that’s just my vote, no greater weight than yours.
I participate on several boards that have gone to VBB 3.x and am a (non-tech) Admin. on one. It’s not horrible, but more than a few bugs needed purging. The option for different colors is available in our present format; it’s merely that it requires some extensive behind the scenes work by a technically adept Admin. to produce a distinct “style” that one can use as a default display – and I’d venture to guess that our Admins. have plenty enough to handle without getting into that.
I do like the quote format of v.3 though: (in the version I’ve seen) it’s a rectangular cartouche with rounded corners and a small capsule at upper left indicating it’s a quote, with a second small capsule at top center indicating who is being quoted. It’s very attractive. I don’t believe it allows for nested quotes, even manually coded, though.
Smart policy. In my network sysadmin days, I had a simple rule: never buy release x.0 of any software. The one you want is release x.2.04.c, by which point they’ve had a chance to hammer out at least the worst of the bugs.
BTW, First Rule of Software: There’s always one more bug.
