I’m thinking a lot of the donors are people trying to assuage guilt from similar crimes committed in their childhoods.
I remember laughing when a bookcase fell on the French teacher in the seventh grade. She immediately began to cry and then cursed at us in French as she hobbled out of the room with her broken collarbone. The door closed and we just continued laughing. I wince when I think how evil we would have looked if it had all been captured by on video.

NOT an appropriate or effective strategy to use with kids. You need to curb the behavior, not teach them to direct it at adults. Your method might be tried if you don’t give a shit about molding sensitive kids. And if you don’t give that shit, please don’t insert yourself in a responsible position around kids.

The threshold for filing a gift tax return is at $13,000 (or $26,000 for married couples that split gifts) for givers of taxable gifts. On top of that there is a lifetime exemption amount of $5,000,000, so no taxes are paid until the taxable gifts given in your lifetime exceed that amount.

I found this site by accident, and I’m sure glad I did, because this has been on my mind since I heard about this. I think the worlds generosity is entirely misdirected. Although I will say that the bus monitor shouldn’t have been disrespected the way she was, it really pisses me off that it has turned into a cash cow for her. If all it takes to have an instant bank account is to get picked on by some suburban wannabe thugs, I’m in! Elderly people are abused and manipulated every day, many times by trusted friends and family. That is much more heartbreaking than what this lady had to sit though for a whole 10 minutes. I wonder what she made on television apperances on top of it. The decent thing to do would be to take a reasonable vacation, which was the purpose of the donations, and then donate to Elder Abuse causes, and Anti- Bullying campains. I don’t anyone should profit that much just for taking up space on a bus seat.

No he doesn’t. He makes it sound like exactly what happened. A woman with minimal authority over the kids lost control over the kids for ten minutes, and now she is getting hundreds of thousands of dollars for being “bullied”. .. because she lost control of the kids.

A year?! Damn. I didn’t know they could do that.
That’s draconian; what these kids did was deplorable but
1- They are kids
2- There was no permanent damage
3- They already suffered from the exposure
A year is overkill brought about by overexposure. If that video had just been privately circulated I doubt there’d have been more than a wrist slap; this is messing with the rest of their lives- making them graduate a year behind their classmates and all- and could conceivably cause massive financial hardship for their families, all for an afternoon’s bad behavior.
I’d have been content to just see them beaten with bamboo a bit. I’m guessing this decision will be appealed and reappealed if necessary over the summer and none will actually get a full year’s suspension.
The article says the families each waived their right to a hearing and agreed to the suspension, so there won’t be any appeals. I wouldn’t have been surprised at a year-long suspension from the bus, but from school as well seems rather harsh. The article also says the students will be transferred to “the district Reengagement Center”, so they shouldn’t be missing a year of school.
I wonder if the district offers transportation to the center…

I’m wondering if for some of them, this isn’t their first offense. Because while what they did was heinous, an entire year’s suspension is ridiculous.
