Here are my proposals. Obviously this isn’t realistic at all, but in a truly just world this is how it would go down IMO.
*Teachers should be required to bear arms in school and authorized to use lethal force to protect kids from their bullies (in high school and maybe middle school, not elementary obviously).
*The age of majority when it comes to crimes should be lowered to 12 or 13 so they can be punished properly.
*In EXTREME cases, ie when the victim commits suicide or it went on for years the bully should have a choice between life in a labor camp or evisceration for organ donation followed by a swift beheading. The victim would have the option of performing the execution herself. This would make organ transplants a lot quicker, China has the right idea! The victims’ family would be allowed to watch and the bully’s family would be required to watch. The proceeds from the airing of the execution would go to anti-bullying and suicide charities and the profits from the minerals in the criminal’s body and whatever labor they did before they were executed would serve as weregild and go to the victim as a final “f you” to the bully.
Alternately the bully could also opt for the Socratic choice and commit seppuku and such an act would be perceived as restoring their honor to a certain extent.
Let me start by saying that viscerally, I love your idea. Bullies are shit and can’t get away with harming others, especially in situations like school where the victim cannot choose not to go. I certainly daydreamed about shooting mine and getting away with it.
However, there are way too many issues with a vengeance plan like this.
Bullies who are bullies because they are abused at home
Bullies who did it out of fear or mass participation in something like on-line bullying, to try to fit in themselves.
As shitty as bullies are, some of their victims kill themselves and some don’t. How do you prove exactly what caused (not contributed to) the person to kill themself?
The biggest problem I have is that bullies get away with shit. They’re manipulative and sneaky and can cast bullying blame on their victims, on innocent bystanders, on teachers.
So you’re going to end up with a lot of collateral damage, and maybe end up with the bully holding the gun.
I think two wrongs don’t make a right. Bullying isn’t a capital crime, and I don’t think it should be. Also, the reason some kids are committing suicide for being bullied is because the bullyers and bullyees aren’t equipped to realize what’s going on. Killing the bully first isn’t the answer. It’s just an answer.
I used to be a bleeding heart but honestly I’ve changed my mind, too many evil people in the world and it’s only getting worse. I think being mugged made me see the light.
Also, I like the idea that “obviously” teachers wouldn’t shoot bullies in elementary school. I mean, c’mon, don’t be ridiculous!
And Scumpup, you’re way off-base. I mean, off the top of my head, we could solve the problem by making bullies wear hats made of sparrows and then attach an extra sparrow every time they bully someone until eventually they’re carried away by the flock of sparrows. Surely that’s a stupider solution?
How about instead of mandatory concealed carry and authorized lethal force for teachers we have mandatory mental health counseling and anger management for bullies? After all, if we can identify the bullies with enough certainty that we should be able to shoot them where they stand we should be able identify them well enough to get them some counseling.
BTW I think lethal force is ONLY justified in self-defense when the bully is attacking the victim, I definitely don’t think teachers should have the right to be judge and jury. That’s for the courts!
I suppose your solution to a blown furnace in your home is to burn the house down, and to contest a speeding ticket by waging war on the entire police department
Okay, fair enough, but I think the best chance this thread has at being an interesting thread is to treat Scumpup’s post as a challenge. Who can come up with a proposal stupider than the OP’s?
My second attempt:
Students should wear explosive collars, and family members should be keyed to the same pass code. When a teacher sees someone bullying, they enter the familial passcode of the bully. A random collar from the bully’s family explodes, decapitating that person. Now bullies know that their actions have consequences for other people. Win!
