My brother-in-law is looking to make some spicy version of the Vietnamese beef broth soup, Bún bò Huế. He’s having a difficult time sourcing a spice mix or soup mix for it.
I realize this is incredibly vague, so I’ll make it as simple as possible: Does anyone out there make their own Bún bò Huế, and if so, A) what are your “essential” ingredients, and B) where do you buy them?
He is near Boston, so there’s a good chance that the proper ingredients are available in a local market, but right now we’re not even sure what to look for. Any Bún bò Huế advice would be welcome. Thanks!

I posted here because any dish can be made using hundreds of different recipes, and - as I explicitly stated - I was looking for people who make their own, and who could advise about the ingredients that they like to use, and where they would buy those ingredients. The kind of personalized advice that it notoriously difficult to find on the internet, particularly given the peculiarity of the spelling.
