Apparently you’ve never lived in the neighborhoods I have.
Wait, who did what now?
(I genuinely have no idea what’s going on. Someone plz 'splain?)
Heck, there was a big Lions v Packers game the other day, and I was like, “Am I supposed to hate Wisconsin or something? Is this like Texas vs Oklahoma?”
I was just proud of myself for knowing that Packers = Green Bay = Wisconsin.
(please don't hate me
)
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 62 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 85 and N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is deheatheization, wherein I have last minute substitute Verger duty, followed by first Sunday brunch. Speakin’ of which, the makeage of chikin sallit sammiches shall commence around seven-thirty. We’re gonna be fancy and cut off the crusts. The afternoon/evenin’ shall involve nappage, much sloth, day drinkin’ and other inactivities.
Boo you, like me, are a die hard fan, win or lose. Teams have up and down years. I am sure the ‘Huskers time is comin’ again.
shoe the past two seasons Michigan has been the number two team goin’ into the playoffs. They have lost in the semi-final both years. I wonder if Michigan fans think bein’ the number two team is a jinx.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.
Happy Sunday Y’all! Happy October Oneth!
I got an email from CVS about meds for FCD - the on-line account indicated both needed Dr permission for refills, so I clicked that button. Luckily, this CVS and the doc are both good about timeliness, so he should have them in a few days. So yay!
How is it October already?? Seriously??
And I see that Powerball rolled over again, so I don’t feel bad about forgetting to get tickets yesterday. $1.04B next drawing - I won’t forget this time.
Today will be another crochet day. I need to make some more sea critters and a couple of gnomes that my mom asked for. So while FCD is futzing in his shop, I’ll do yarn magic. Maybe I’ll even get motivated enough to drive John Deere around the yard, tho I’m thinking I may save that till tomorrow. We shall see.
It’s also clean-the-critter-fountain day and the dishwasher needs to be emptied. But no heavy chores. And I think I’ll finally make the veggie-beef soup that I meant to get to Firday. Gee, maybe a busier day than I thought.
Happy Sunday!
Mornin all’ Just after dawn here, mostly cloudy with rain offshore and patchy rain someplace hereabouts predicted for most of the day. Presently 82/28 on the way to 88/31.
I got to bed early for once and got 9-1/2 good hours. Yaay me. Definitely necessary. At wake-up I’d hoped the weather would be beach compatible, but it wasn’t. I don’t mind the threat of rain; it’s the widespread cloudiness that ruins it. Must have major sunshine beaming down at least most of the time, not 3% of the time.
It appears my getting up awakened Her Ladyship. Who is constitutionally unable to get back to sleep, nor to nap. And who stayed up extra late last night (2:30ish to bed). A tetchy day awaits. Sigh.
We have no plans beyond sloth in my case and homemaker industry in her case. Much of which is busywork, and the rest of which she refuses my involvement with. I have never been the guy who sits around while his woman labors. Until now. I’m not comfortable with this, but it’s the outcome that makes her happy, or at least happiest.
FCM somehow I’d missed the Antarctica trip. Sounds like a great experience. That and Iceland are abut the only two items explicitly on my non-existent bucket list.
Flyboy: Am I remembering a discussion about yellow vs blue some years ago? Or was that somebody else with a crotch rocket from their youth? In any case, good luck w the restoration. Every now and then I see somebody riding a good example of the old breeds. Makes me think I oughta …
Sari: sounds like the usual: two steps forward, one back, and then pull a stuck boot out of the mud, put it on, and take another step. But it will get done. Yaay!!
Last month I went to one of my specialists for an annual checkup and two paper scrips for a year’s worth of whatever. They refuse to do e-scrips. I’m about this close to firing them over that and general disorganization / overcrowding , but my PCP says right now there’s a real shortage of that specialty around here; a couple of the Old Guard just retired.
Anyhow, the PA hand-writes out the scrips and hands them to me. I immediately read them carefully as he’s trying to get out the exam room door that I’m blocking. One is for a nonsense dosage. Like 100mg when they only make that pill up to 20mg which is plenty. I point this out. “Oops. That’s the standard dosage for a different med we use for the same condition.” So he writes a new scrip for the correct med and at the correct dosage. Good thing I checked. At least a month of stupidity would have ensued had I not noticed until I’d mailed it off to the pharm and they’d bounced it back.
My motto: you (I) are the only person with any stake in any of this. Everybody else is just trying to get rid of you (me) so they can get rid of the next customer so they can get rid of the … It’s exhausting having to be everybody’s QC person. But it sure seems to be the way of the modern world, and not just in medicine.
Not that you could have pre-empted the 15 pills / 30 days mistake.
Swampy The best teams are the ones that give your lungs & heart a good workout even from your living room ;). Seems the Dawgs got that goin’ for ya’.
Or at least one who’s smart enough to recognize his neighbors are morons that he needs to actively defend agaisnt. I see self-preservation here, not generosity.
Yaay for BBBoo and kidlets and sewing and Huskers. Despite the lopsided outcome. Speaking again of prescription follies I was amazed to see online that the new post-retirement mail-order pharmacy received all 4 maintenance scrips my doc sent during my PCP visit last week. Of course at least one of them has the wrong refill count, but that problem won’t mature for another 9-ish months. Shit is soo much easier to do right the first time and yet nobody can seem to do that with anything approaching regularity. Sigh.
JtC. As you well know, baby javelina are so cute. But that’s the one and only redeeming feature of the species. I miss seeing them occasionally, but not enough to want them around here.

Gee, maybe a busier day than I thought.
I think that pretty well describes every day of your life. I remain in awe.
Cheers all!!
Morning all. See in the news that I am not a billionaire this morning, so I guess I do have to mow the lawn today… Weather is the same as before, 63F now but heading up to 89F later and no rain to be seen. Guess I will have to water the lawn this week. Outside of Sunday Dining, nothing much on the agenda, we’ll see how it goes.
Sari, sounds like some country livin’ is in your future. And you’ll get used to the smells…I hope…
And I know my cable (or was it wireless) had to be buried, they have a special tool for it (at least here) that doesn’t dig up much of the lawn.
swampy, yeah, but half the state of Ali-bama is going to be surly this morning… BBBoo, sorry it didn’t go well for Big Red, being born and raised in Ohio the OSU-Michigan game was the focal point of college football for most of my teenage years.

and made a holster for her light saber to wear with her Princess Leia Halloween costume.
I bet that’s going to be a great costume. Enjoy the grandkid day.
nellie, 4-mile walks could make anyone’s legs sore (well, maybe except Flyboy’s). Hope the pain relief remedies helped.

Unrelated: braunschweiger lasts that long in the fridge? TIL.
Well, that’s the what expiration dates read. I’ve gotten much better since retirement in reading them, and some on the shelf had 24 Nov while others had 11 Dec. Who am I to argue?
JtC, no javalina’s around here, glad you could scare them off; hope the cheicken wire helps.
Shoe, in the great mystery that is Big-Time College Football, The University of Georgia Bulldogs (known as the ‘Dawgs’) are currently ranked #1 and The University of Michigan Woverines are ranked #2 (and smell like it…OSU fan). Surprised someone up in the Mitten state hasn’t taught you all that…
OK, need to get a couple moderately useful things done this morning and then resume sloth until Dinner time. Have a good Sunday all.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 19c/65f with no predicted change, and rain showers. Weather app says “Another fucking beautiful, rainy day. Said nobody. Ever.” I’m not saying it either, 'cos it’s not raining.
I’ve had a busy but exhausting couple of days so have read much and retained little
{{{{{Taters and Polar}}}} I’m sorry that the end is in sight, you’ve given Polar such a fabulous life, he has been loved and cared for, and wanted for nothing. Now you have some time together and the chance to give him one last gift, the kind of ending you want for him. I’m another of those internet strangers who thinks he’s been The Very Best Boy and deserves extra skritches.
Dreaded laundry day today, but otherwise it should be a quiet one. I’m going to give the treadmill a try, but gently. Tough to get motivated again after the last few weeks of sloth. Off to make breakfast.
Showered and dressed. Emptied and started refilling the dishwasher. Fed FCD.
I’ve got a biiiiiiig pot of veggie beef soup simmering away - some will go to MIL, some into the freezer, some for supper. Guess I’d better get the critter fountain taken care of. It only takes about 15-20 minutes start to finish, but I still hate doing it.
FCD brought 3 containers in from the shop that he wants me to sort, storing what needs to be stored (old business records) too what needs to be tossed, and organizing and stowing the rest. Rah. I’ll get to crochet eventually.
And the fountain won’t clean itself, so off I go…
JtC, I have silicon mats for baking sheets and love them. Should I get more silicon bakeware, muffin tins would be at the top of my list. I also use mats in the studio for when I’m gluing pieced paper elements.
I didn’t hit the lottery last night either metal mouse.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and watching a UNC production of Oklahoma!. I’ll begin KP and meal prep shortly.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
It’s October, so it’s Matress Flippin’ Toothbrush Switchin’ Filter Swapin’ time! And of course Spot had to “help” with the bed. But I’m up, caffeinated, and sheveled. And it’s cleaning and handegg day!

It’s exhausting having to be everybody’s QC person. But it sure seems to be the way of the modern world, and not just in medicine.
“There’s never enough time to do it right, but always enough time to do it over”

Flyboy: Am I remembering a discussion about yellow vs blue some years ago?
Yep. After my Seca II was stolen, and then recovered, trashed and spray-painted, I decided to repaint it Reddish-Yellow Cocktail. Although I have the parts and the paint to restore it, I don’t have the funds or time or expertise. And the R1 is a higher priority.

Dreaded laundry day today, but otherwise it should be a quiet one.
A-a-a-a-nd two of the four dryers are out of order. Fuck me.
Morning, all. Soup sounds like a good plan for the day. Maybe I’ll give it a go. It’s sunny right now, so we might motivate ourselves to go out for a walk bfore returning to furniture assembly tasks. I’m afraid our refurb is floating Ikea and Wayfair this month.
I am working on the plans for my next big walk, this time on a different branch of the Camino de Santiago. I’ve put in an application to volunteer for a week at a pilgrim welcome center.
Other than that, laundry, sweepage, and similar. I weedwacked yesterday; I am a hero.
The whingy Skywalker git gene must be on the “y” chromosome.

you (I) are the only person with any stake in any of this. Everybody else is just trying to get rid of you (me) so they can get rid of the next customer so they can get rid of the …
You’ve nailed it. And that hounded look in their eyes, like the bean counters are just outside the door about to crack the whip if they spend 15 more seconds answering a last question you have.

I’m about this close to firing them over that and general disorganization / overcrowding , but my PCP says right now there’s a real shortage of that specialty around here
It’s the same around here. I have to drive 120 miles round trip to Omaha to see a decent neurologist-at least he is good at listening once I get there. I think a lot of the problem is the shift to the much more highly paid specialities and away from primary care-the ranks are getting pretty thin there. That’s a problem that has been a generation or two in the making and I have no idea how we are going to fix that, except to create a lot more medical school slots and residencies designated (and funded) for primary care like family practice, pediatrics and internal medicine.

Boo you, like me, are a die hard fan, win or lose. Teams have up and down years. I am sure the ‘Huskers time is comin’ again.
yep, I am. It’s been a long drought for us but I think we’re on a better path now. That last coach just about broke our spirit. Winning every game is not required, but a bowl game most seasons would be nice.
@purplehorseshoe~ that advice to have a hometown Michigan native explain it to you is a good one because you have a more complicated situation in Michigan with two big football schools, Michigan (out of Ann Arbor and the #2 in the nation) and Michigan State out of Lansing (probably ranked nationally about like my Huskers-we play Michigan State Nov. 4.). Michigan State is closer to you and maybe local loyalty is more attached to them than to Michigan. Only a local could untangle that for you-find a cute one and have a long discussion over pizza and beer, maybe get invited over to their place to watch a game while they provide detailed color commentary. Hard for you to lose in that deal.
The Michigan State Spartans and the Michigan Wolverines have had a long-standing rivalry since about 1898 and play each other yearly. Look up “Michigan–Michigan State football rivalry” on Wikipedia for an entertaining story-plus, it will explain a fair bit about college football in da Mitten State. Sorry, I do not know a how to make a link but it’s worth you typing that into the search bar.
Oh–and speaking of meds, as of this morning, I have 700 more days of Tamoxifen to go. That sounds like a lot, but I’ve already taken 2952 (+/-1).
Good luck with all of that. Both the tamoxifen and whatever follows.
We had a nice spot of rain yesterday, enough to clean the air and make for a pleasantly cool and humid Sunday.
Today we’re off to an udon restaurant in Cupertino. It’s my birthday lunch, and I chose this new place because it resembles all the yummy udon joints in Japan that I see on youtube. It’s cafeteria style: you choose your bowl of udon and style of soup broth, then slide down and pick from a selection of tempura and other goodies to top it. Hopefully it lives up to the hype.
Happy Sunday! The fog is creeping away “on little cat feet.” No big plans for the day because it’s Sunday. I slept like a log but am still tired because I’m on a new medication for restless legs. It works, but don’t like the palpitations it gives me, so I’ll have to ask the doc. Kids will call later on.
Lily, hooray for being 4/5ths of the way there!

I think a lot of the problem is the shift to the much more highly paid specialities and away from primary care-the ranks are getting pretty thin there.
A terrific GP I had in Wyoming told me few people were becoming GP’s because of the money, plus there’s no glamor, little respect, and no opportunity to publish. I’ll add that people think GP’s do nothing a PA or NP can do, which is so wrong.
