Some, such as I, have greatness thrust upon them. When have you, with pleasure or reluctance, heeded the call and stepped forward to do whatever is necessary?
First! It’s good to be juvenile!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 49 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 79 and N.O.S. I shall attempt to figure out the laptop situation today. Have a feelin’ the solution will be a new one. Tonight is men’s night over to the church house, thus steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’. I shall also endeavor to make time for RDOS inactivities.
Lily thanks for steppin’ up to get us started. I usually tell greatness to go away and leave me alone.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Moanday Y’all!
Whoever wakes first and is cognitively able starts the thread, woo hoo!
Just woke and its to be a clear 70+ day.
More later.
From the last MMP: You know what my name for Pico is? Pico de Gaggo. I mean raw onions and tomatoes together?? YUCK!!!
Today we’re heading North with several stops along the way. The mother of an old friend who lives in Akron saw my Peas on Earth on fb and wants to buy some so we’ll stop and chat with her for a few. Then we’re going north to the VA hospital for an appointment for MusicMan. Somewhere in there we need to get a copy of my MRI and x-rays from the main campus Cleveland Clinic and I need some more clay from Michael’s because theirs is the best combination of soft and cheap.
Wish my leg luck that I can handle sitting in the car for that long. I’ve got an extra pillow to sit on in the car and I hope that will help.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 13c/55f with no predicted change, and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s mild and fucking overcast outside. Maybe you should fucking stay inside and pay your fucking bills.” Well, I would, except I paid them all so they’re all done until the start of next month.
That sounds like a lot of travelling but I’m not surprised someone loved those Peas on Earth and wants some! Good luck to you and your leg
I have had a not very exciting day so far. My Chinese student issue rumbles on, he’s been in contact with someone else in the dept now (this makes at least 8 people in our dept, 3 in the other side of his joint honours programme, and 3 people in the International Student Team) but still gets the same answer he doesn’t want.
'im indoors has been offered a 12-month contract so he will be starting that in December as he’s got to sort out clearance and whatnot first so yay for that bit of good news! He’s gone to the gym now so I’ve got some quiet time in the house, and then he’s bringing back yummy Indian food for lunch.
I’m making dinner tonight so it will be a big pot of chilli, which will give me leftovers for later in the week. Nothing else exciting today, both my meetings got cancelled so I am pottering along through some other jobs.
Technically since I’m usually up and about before everyone else, I could start the MMP every week…but I wait for other people to start it because we should all be able to do that if we want to
Sorry, i didn’t know about the cognitively able bit when i started my MMP a few
weeks ago. I assume that makes it null and void.
No! You were able to make it, so you were more cognitive than you thought.
Ah . Thanks !
It’s been most interesting that since Higgs is gone, I don’t feel compelled to wake stupid early. Today I slept till nearly 8!! I honestly can’t recall the last time I did that.
As far as stepping up, none of the times had to do with greatness and most had to do with cleaning up gawd-awful messes or health situations with kidlets, usually those I was babysitting. And it usually involved massive amounts of vomit - so not so much greatness as keeping myself from adding to the mess.
Oh, wait, I remember one. When we picked up out boat 3 years ago and was heading home with it, all of a sudden there was a massive amount of water coming in, and while FCD was figuring out where it was coming from, I turned the boat to the nearest shallow stretch so, if necessary, I could ground us before we sank. It was in January, so too cold to go swimming, yanno. As it turned out, a hose to the A/C/heater unit up forward had come loose when we turned the heat on. FCD found and closed the thru-hull that fed the unit, then turned on the bilge pump, and we proceeded with no further incidents. FCD said I done good.
Plan for the day. When the nurse gets here, I’m going to do my walkage around the neighborhood rather than tread the mill. I used to do that regularly and I’d forgotten how nice it was, until it got hot and humid and icky. This cool weather, tho, is perfect for walking. I’ll probably break out the damp mop and attack the floors after MIL has her shower. And I don’t know what else.
Oh yeah - the local animal rescue group has what they call the Cat Castle and they need volunteers to clean up after the cats. I’m going to call and find out if I can bring MIL to play with the kittehs while I clean up after them.
Um, no. Have you been reading along here very much? Cognitive ability or intelligence or even consciousness mean nothing!! Sheesh! We just need something to get the ball rolling. I’m pretty sure if a cat walked across a keyboard, as long as the topic ended in MMP, no one would notice.
OK, I’ve said my piece. Onward!! Happy Moanday!!
I’ve a nice little tri-tip roast defrosting on the counter, and it’ll become lunch today with taters and mushrooms and a salad of roma beans and raw onions, I think.
Since high quality steaks now cost as much as a used car, I’ve switched to tri-tip from Costco for our occasional steak needs. I buy a pair of tri-tip roasts, and slice them up into steaks, small roasts, and bits and pieces for stir fry or shish kebab. It’s way more economical, and tri-tip is extremely tasty, if not quite as tender as a ribeye or a strip steak.
Morning all. It’s 44F right now so a bit chilly in Casa Rat, but due to get to 82F today so warming is expected. The rest of October looks the same on the long-range forecasts, cool nights and days in the 70’s/80’s and no rain to be seen. Almost wish the days were longer.
Not much on for the week, need to bag up all the now-oversized clothes I’ve downsized out of and put them out tomorrow morning for donation pickup and about Wednesday do a Braunschweiger run to get me to Thanksgiving, but otherwise it’ll be soccer and gym taking up a lot of the week, along with assorted housework.
As for heeding the call, I guess my coaching and refereeing youth soccer counts, it certainly is necessary and it does get me out of the house and active.
Sticky Buns, always enjoy hearing about your moving around Northern Ohio, I lived there the first 27 years of my life and it’s still ‘home’ even if I haven’t been back in a decade. Best wishes for your leg.
boo fae, good news for 'im Indoors, hope it’s a good job for him.
FCM,
That’s quite a good idea, I presume MIL likes cats.
lucky, happy luncheon (it sounds too fancy to be a mere ‘lunch’
)
OK, been an hour since medication, so need to get the morning banana and get about the day. Have a good week all.
Have you ever done sous-vide? The pork and beef I’ve cooked that way comes out almost melt-in-your-mouth tender. The only thing is you have to plan way ahead as it can take a fair bit of time.
She likes all critters. She once rescued and raised a baby squirrel before setting it free in the woods. I hope it figured out how to feed itself.
Speaking of cats, we’ve spotted 2 walking across our back deck (at different times - not like they’re buddies.)
Ojihyffejk@4*#@Jghf~
Boo’s Moxie cat says “hi!”, “good morning” and “stop typing and pet me!”
Sounds like a delightful idea for all involved. Maybe tuck a few long pieces of leftover yarn in MIL’s pocket for her to dangle in front of the kittehs to entice them to play with her? I have yet to meet a cat who can resist a dangley piece of string or yarn. Of course, I AM an old lady who can’t resist a kitteh, so that works both ways.
Look who has a girlfriend!!
His class went on a field trip to a local farm. Just too cute not to share.
BBBoo - yep, you proved my point! Let your kitteh start us off next week!
Just finished emptying the dishwasher. I did my 30 minute walk outside and I find my pace is much brisker out there than on the treadmill, and much less boring, even without TV. Plus the neighborhood isn’t flat, so the ups and downs add to the benefits. I also paced out a 30-minute route that keeps me close to home, just in case… reasons… Anyway, I now have 2 options, and with another close-by cul-de-sac, I may be able to map out a 3rd.
MIL has had her shower. Nurse had to reschedule for tomorrow. FCD is in his shop, then off to the boat. I need to do my shoulder stretches, then assume the crochet position. Since I slept in so late, I guess I need to move lunch back, but I’m so used to lunching at 11, my brain may protest. We’ll see how I do.
Now, tho, I need to get out of the sweatpants and into shorts. It was chilly as I walked, but since it’s supposed to get close to 80, sweats won’t do. So off to swap my lower attire.
We’re on vacation in Pacific Beach, WA. Nice house with a loft bedroom and a jet bath upstairs, and another bedroom and a bathroom downstairs. We can see the ocean by looking between a couple of houses. I think Mrs. L.A. said it’s $94/night. Not bad! We’ll drive down to Westport today and then explore to the north tomorrow.
The cat-sitter texted yesterday that the kitties were successfully fed. Apparently even Abbey will come out of hiding at the smell of gooshy food.
I was up and at the high school to work on their sets early this morning, but the guy I report to was nowhere to be found. I farted around the shop fixing shit for a couple of hours then said screw it, I’m leaving. Off to my shop cuz I have stuff to there.
Despite Indigenous People’s Day/Participation Trophy Guy Day being a minor Federal holiday, we were shorthanded. And someone had hurled the Door 82 diverter from on high down to the floor. And the supply pig wasn’t on the wall until after start time. And to top it off, the system once again sent an entire truckload of DELV to the 100 Slide(where no one was working) instead of the trailer on 89(where C was twiddling her thumbs). And I couldn’t work that, because I got yeeted from Surepost to the 200 slide, which was also getting all the Mez work, along with some add/cuts that weren’t pulled till the drivers were leaving. So long holiday Monday, but “Not my circus, not my monkeys”.
Edit: and Spot is napping in the dog kennel, because cat.
“Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our English dead.” - Henry V Act III, Scene I
It took me 48 years to learn to say NO!
And see above.
Awwwww
@purplehorseshoe, if you’re still craving Thin Mints, check out Keebler Grasshoppers. Year-round easy availability at more reasonable prices, and very similar cookies.
Or who is still up at a somewhat reasonable time to start the thread,
I’ve done that a couple of times.
If I’m not being insensitive here, is he from the generation where Chinese families were only allowed one child each and most families insisted on boys? I’ve heard (not sure how true this is) that a lot of those boys wound up very spoiled little princes. If this guy fits that, he might be having trouble processing “No, you cannot and will not get your way this time”.
I’ve known “parents” here in the States who honestly believed it would damage a child to say “no” or in any way correct them (even if they were doing something that posed safety risks to themselves or others around them), and you can guess what the kids were like. I’m betting life in the real adult world came as a horrible shock to them.
Since I don’t recall noticing anything wrong with your thread (and I’ve started a few myself), nope, you did fine.
Wasn’t that last week? (haven’t gotten around a significant amount of Mt. Dew yet)
When my immediate boss died suddenly, our workplace was thrown into immediate turmoil. The director of the department was good friends with Jack and was mourning his loss, as were some others. The chaos was palpable and important things just weren’t getting done. So, with some trepidation, I went to her and told her that my name was in the hat to fill his position, realizing that she could take that information poorly and that trying to fill his shoes was a tall order. The former turned out not to be a problem, but filling his shoes generated some friction that took several months to erase. I eventually ended up running the show when she retired.
