Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 80 and mostly cloudy. I shall spend a fair amount of time today dealin’ with the public. I need to refill and pick up a ‘script sometime this mornin’. Then I shall be able to recover from the trauma of all that this afternoon. Tonight is men’s night over to the church house, so we shall attend. Actually we will go over early and do prep work as is our wont. I suppose one must occasionally deal with a peopley day. Le Sigh.
OK, no topic of great import here. Just gettin’ us up and runnin’ for the week. Jump in and hijack away!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
I’m up after an amazingly good night’s sleep! I think I got close to 8 hours for the first time in eons, unaided by Mel or anything else. I was kinda tahred…
On to the new week. We’re promised rain this week, naturally, because the county fair starts on Thursday… Of course, the prediction for Saturday is likely to change several times before then - we shall see. I hope the weather will cooperate - Tobias is at the age where he should really enjoy the animals.
MIL is up early today, and her brain continues to go weird places. She had a dream that she had $1000 and she came into the kitchen while I was making her breakfast wanting me to confirm that her ID was, in fact, hers. There was no logic - she sat in her chair, picked up her purse, pulled out her wallet, then was unsure the ID within was hers. Then she asked me if she cooked broth and chicken dressing last night - heck, she can’t even see the controls on the stove. Watching this decline is hard - I can’t imagine what it’s like for FCD…
Last night she was saying we should feel free to go away overnight if we want to. OK, first off, we’ve not discussed going anywhere in ages, at least not around her. Secondly, BIL lives in a tiny studio apartment with a twin bed - she seems to think he’ll be fine sleeping on his recliner while she takes the bed. Thirdly, BIL has no idea how to handle any emergencies with her. And most of all, at the moment, we can’t really afford to go anywhere without digging into just-in-case savings. So, nope, ain’t gonna happen any time soon. But she obsesses on us getting away.
JtC - what you described in the last MMP doesn’t seem to match any of the recipes I saw for pepperoni bread. I’m guessing it’s a regional thing - different areas have different interpretations of the same-named food. I’m not a huge pepperoni fan - it’s just too greasy to me - but FCD likes it. Guess I’ll explore the offerings one line and pick on I think he’ll like.
It’s nurse day and shower day and (perhaps) finally the day all the boat work is done. FCD will go over this afternoon and inspect with the head electrician. Fingers crossed. As for me, I have a check to deposit and I need to get some more coffee pods - MIL used the last one this morning. Tho I do have some bagged coffee in the freezer and her coffee maker has a special basket for using your own coffee - I should give it a try.
As you can see, the usual exciting things here at FairyChatEstate. Happy Moanday!!
It’s 50F and partly cloudy, although fog is moving in. It’ll be foggy for a few hours, then the skies will clear, and it’ll be sunny with a high temperature of 71F.
I am working from home today because it will be a long day with meetings and interviews. One of the meetings is a quarterly meeting with the leadership of our sister agencies, which will be about four hours long. It’s also my husband’s birthday, and I didn’t want to add an extra 1.5 hours to the work day with the commute.
My son stayed the night and took today off to spend the day with my husband. I picked my son up from the airport yesterday morning upon his return from a friend’s wedding in Denver.
I would have preferred to take today off, but it just didn’t work out because of the interviews and the quarterly meeting I must attend.
I’ve been absent for a few days because I had some other things going on, so consequently, I missed a few days of last week’s MMP.
I am sending you all my best in the hope of a peaceful, or at least non-stressful day.
So he’s come out of his health crisis - his appendix, right? (Sorry - too lazy to review past MMPs.) Anyway, glad he’s better - that’s one small load off your mind, right?
He spent time in urgent care a couple of weeks ago because his left lung partially collapsed. He received a breathing machine with instructions to complete his breathing exercises several times daily. He thought he was back to normal, but on Friday morning, he awoke to his other lung being partially collapsed and had to trek around to four or five different urgent cares and an ER before finding one that accepted his insurance. He received an x-ray and another breathing machine.
That put a damper on his trip, and he was also experiencing gastric distress—all in all, it was not a good trip for him. I think he spent more time in his hotel room than with his friends.
He did get a good long nap yesterday, and we just let him sleep. I hope he is feeling better today.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 17c/63f with no predicted change, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Could be colder, could be fucking warmer. I wish the weather would make up its fucking mind.” I did see a weather forecast on the lunchtime news that said we’ve had a couple of autumnal days, and now we are heading back to temperatures in the low to mid 20s.
Mooom congrats on getting so much good sleep, I can’t remember the last time I got anywhere near to 8hrs. Anyway, good for you - you must have needed it after being ill too.
Taters glad to hear your son’s on the mend and will be able to enjoy a day with family. Happy birthday to Mr Taters too. Sorry to hear you’ve had to work today though, that’s a very long day you’re putting in
Swampy I hope you’re dressing appropriately for all that peopleing!!
My day has been relatively calm in comparison. I have no need to be anywhere but here, it’s a working from home day so I’m getting on with some stuff. The cats have been fed, medicated and fussed, I do need to call the vets to set up an appointment for Shadow to have his regular thyroid check and his mani-pedi so much do that next.
Other than that, it’s a fairly peaceful day. No massive skip fires in my inboxes, I have done a job I needed to get done by today, and I’ve got a bunch of other things I need to get on with. Dinner tonight will be leftover chilli from Friday which has been maturing in the fridge
I’m a native Southern Californian (now ex-pat). It always amused me when I drove through your city and saw the exit signs for the port, because you’re so far inland.
Morning, Stayed in bed until nearly 8am, but my shots are scheduled for 9:20am and they want me there early, so need to make this short. After shots there is shopping and sammich time then the usual gym time (pool is closed for a week) and soccer in the late afternoon. So will write more when I can, but yeahs, boos, hugs and assorted well-wishes to all for the week.
Today would have been my dad’s 74th birthday. We joked that we are going to buy one Monster energy drink and split it into shots for the 3 of us. Also some Peanut Butter M&M’s.
Shoe, I was just wondering because in my mind you’re about 35-40. That makes sense, thanks for indulging me.
FCM, glad you got some good sleep last night.
Happy Birthday, Mr. Taters!!
It’s a bit tense here right now as MusicMan is waiting for an official ‘you’re hired’ call. He got the 99% ‘we’re going to finalize things with you on Monday’ call on Friday and now he’s waiting for the formalities. The person that he’s waiting on is in another time zone, so we’re not sure when he’ll get the call. Hopefully soon!
I start my new job tomorrow and I’m more excited than apprehensive, so that’s a good sign.
SWMBO bought a new rug for the laundry room. I knew it would be large, but it turned out to be bigger than the room. That meant I had to move the dryer and the washing machine into the kitchen. I hate that. It’s a very tight fit getting them through the door. Both have those slider pucks, which make them easy to move within the laundry room, but due to the flooring options my friend chose when he owned the house, the pucks slide off getting the machines into the kitchen.
HandyWife laid the rug and cut it to fit the room and around the cabinet, corners, and doors, and even managed to get it under the deep sink. But she found a small drip at the T-joint that connects the deep sink’s hot water. She was going to disconnect it and ‘re-glue’ it, but thought she should call a plumber instead. I asked, since it was just a drip, if we could use Flex Seal. She said that was a good idea. I turned off the hot water, and we went to the hardware store. Once she had the sealant applied, I asked how long it takes to dry. ‘Um… 24 to 48 hours. We’ll turn the water back on tomorrow [Sunday].’ We both kept trying to use hot water, forgetting we only had cold.
Sunday morning I thought, ‘Well, at least if there’s no hot water and I can’t take a shower, then I won’t have to go to church!’ But I found her in the back bedroom (where the water heater is) trying to figure out how to turn the hot water back on. She asked me to do it. Unbeknownst to me, and forgotten by her, she’d opened the hot water tap to drain any water out of the pipe she was going to fix. I turned on the hot water, and heard it rushing. Now we don’t know if her sealing of the leak worked, because the tap poured water over everything. Well, I’m not pulling the appliances out again.
I hooked up the hoses from the washer. I turned on the hot water tap and set washer for a cold wash. Water came in, so I had to reverse the hoses. It was only after that, that I noticed the hoses had colours on them to tell them apart.
Anyway, the rug looks good and we have hot water. (And I did get a shower and had to go to church.)
Mrs. L.A.'s ‘stomach’ is getting better. I made chicken Schnitzel (or ‘chicken-fried chicken’, as I call it when I see it on a restaurant menu), mashed Yukon Gold potatoes, and country gravy out of a packet for dinner last night. I wish I’d remembered to get a can of beets.
Been shot, COVID in the right arm and the flu in the left so just taking 10 before heading to Kroger and Jersey Mike’s. Lady was real good, barely felt the needle.
Nurse has come and gone. They decided to stop one of MIL’s meds (the sleeping pill) to see if that takes care of the disturbing dreams. I ran my errands and FCD just left for the boatyard. The aide is enroute to give MIL her shower. And I’ve got a semi-meaty chicken carcass in the pot to make broth which will become chicken-rice soup. How productive am I?!?!?
Our marina is giving out freebie tickets to one of the Annapolis Boat shows next month. So we requested ours for the Power Boat show - it runs Oct 3-6. It’ll be weird for us, after many, many years of going to the Sailboat show, but we’re Trawlerfolk now. We need to decide which day we’ll go and arrange for someone to stay with MIL - we absolutely can’t take her and more than absolutely can’t leave her home alone. I’m guessing BIL will be elected. But we’ll deal with that closer to the time.
Guess I’ll assume the position in my recliner and wait for Jessica to come hose down MIL…
Morning everyone. The power is out again and the forest is still burning and it seems like I’m the only one who has noticed. Hubs had doctor appointments at the VA this morning and had to go the long way because the highway was closed.

It’s the first “not working on a normal work day” day of my staycation!
It was only 59°F when I took Bailey out this morning; currently it’s 65 and cloudy, with a very light/inconsistent breeze. It’s only supposed to hit 76 today, so if it stays cloudy I should be able to keep the windows open nonstop.
I have no plans today. A trip to the Spy Museum had already morphed into simply having lunch at my BFFs’, because Wife BFF got sick late last week, but last night even just lunch got cancelled because she’s still feeling crappy. We’ve penciled in lunch on Saturday, and will see how she feels at the end of the week. She’s worth the readjustment/flexibility.
This afternoon I’ll start the message board. When it’s done, I plan to move the 'Vette up and have it share a shelf with the Lambo (with the help of an acrylic stand) and display the message board under them/above the Eiffel Tower. At first I thought the message board might take a while because of having to assemble each letter, but I only need to make 19 of them so it actually might not take much time at all. Then I’ll have to decide whether to break into the Christmas decorations I’d planned to wait until November to assemble. But a key part of that decision would be whether I can find a safe place in the third bedroom to keep them for the next two months, and right now I don’t think I have any extra space in there. If I get really bored later this week, there’s a new Lego sales/trading store not far from me that I haven’t checked out yet.
Ha!
Unfortunately, the macaroni salad wound up being kinda crappy. I’m usually fine with simple generic/deli macaroni salad, but I couldn’t eat more than the first bite. I’ll try the potato salad today or tomorrow, but am now apprehensive about it. This experiment made me realize that I usually get those things from the other nearby store – I’m actually not sure I’d ever bought them at this place before – so maybe I’ll have to go there at some point now that I’ve decided I want some.
Maybe they were able to get to 50% before needing to ask you…? At any rate, I agree that the least they could have done was notify you about the closure. Grrr.
Sometimes you make it hard for me to love you…
()
Yay!!
Did you try specifically Googling “west virginia pepperoni rolls”? Apparently they are the state food.
OMG! What’s going on with him that’s resulting in these partial lung collapses??
.
!!
Definitely!
I went with the opposite on Friday evening. The COVID arm has been more sore, but the flu arm bruised a little. The flu arm hasn’t been sore since the following morning, though; and today, the COVID arm is only a little sore if I poke at the injection site. I’m quite grateful that I seem to never have adverse reactions to these vaccinations…I’ll take a little soreness!
I’m still behind on a couple of jabs: I’ve needed Shingrix for a while, and in July I became due for another tetanus shot. But making the flu and COVID appointments made me realize I could also schedule the others at CVS, so I’ll look into doing so sometime this week. I’ll aim for an October appointment, though: I don’t want to get another vaccination so soon, especially since I think both the Shingrix and Tdap shots are…unpleasant.
Does the home health service offer any kind of respite care? I’m not suggesting a fully qualified RN staying with MIL all day, which I imagine would be $$, but maybe they have other trained staff? Or another program might? Or something…?
“Could be worse..it could be raining.” - Igor, Young Frankenstein
It did in fact rain on me on the long uphill walk to the car.
So I was in Surepost today, doing the setup. Which I’ve never done before. And the Sup who was running Green had never run Surepost before. but I got things rolling because [Pakled]We are smart.[/Pakled].but I’m home now and…hold on a minute..
GET YOUR ANUS OFF MY CHEESEHAT!

Anyways, I’m home and had my bowl of dry flavorless bits with strawberries. Now it’s naptime.
When I feel humans, I tend to get smacked.

Yikes for your son, Taters. And I hope the meetings don’t cut too much into your celebrating your Hub’s birthday.
It really ties the room together?

Happy Moanday all!
I had a 3-week job in North Carolina, about an hour outside Raleigh. The days were long and I was tired in the evenings, so while I occasionally popped in to lurk the MMP’s, I did not keep up and didn’t feel like participating.
The job was OK. Fairly straightforward with no surprises, which is good, but also somewhat tedious.
The good news is that I got to visit my brother and his family in the Raleigh/Durham area over Labor Day weekend. We went to a Crowded House concert on Saturday, a Durham Bulls game on Sunday, and they had all their daughters and grandkids over for a barbecue on Monday. I got to meet my six-month-old grandniece for the first time. It was a blast.
Last week I was at home and read the whole MMP, but still didn’t feel like chiming in. Looks like the biggest news I missed was JtC’s cat getting a new name.
This week, I finally have an appointment for a heart echo; it’s about a year overdue. I miss my old cardiologist. Before I moved, he told me he could keep me on as his patient via video calls. When I tried to make an appointment, UCSF said uh-uh, you’re out of state, too bad, so sad.
I do like my new guy so far. He seems very thorough, and ordered a CT and a 3-day monitor as well as the echo, to - as he put it - get a really good look at everything that’s going on. I’m glad for that, though the monitor will be a PITA. At least it’s not for 14 days like the last one I did.
Next week I’m supposed to be in Columbus, but they still haven’t contacted me about travel plans. We shall see.
I tend to believe that dying people can choose when to give up. In my MIL’s last days, her husband, sister, and BIL kept a rotating bedside vigil. One day, the three of them decided to get lunch together. They were gone for less than half an hour, and sure enough, that’s when she passed.
As far gone as your MIL is getting mentally, she may actually think she’s planning to do you a favor by dying when you’re not around.
This is infuriating. No one should have to go through that. What a crappy system we have.
And shopping and sammich are completed, the dishwasher is washing, and will head off to the gym in about an hour. The rain from the weekend is gone, the sky is clear and the temperature is 81F heading to 86F, so a real nice day in store. Soccer will be coached this afternoon and a Whataburger will follow from that, so a moderately productive day today.
FCM, glad you got your 8 hours in; I nearly did 9 and it feels so good…
Taters, a 4-hour meeting better have some breaks programmed or there will be rioting… Hope Son’s lungs do better. ’
boo fae, happy Bin Day Eve
Sticky Buns, I presume that the energy drink and M&Ms bring back fond memories of your dad. Be well. Best wishes for Music Man and you on the job front.
flyboy, sounds like a busy weekend, glad everything seems to be working out.
JtC, bet you thought you were getting away from the forest fires when you moved East, didn’t ya?
Oopsie, C3P-0 looks great, you’re going to need more shelf space real soon…
Awwww…sorry, while I love tomatoes off the vine, tomato sauce just never appealed to me and never developed the habit.
Wheelie, glad you could connect with family while working. Hope the old heart is till working fine,. And which Columbus (there are several, I’ll presume it’s Ohio).
Alrighty then, need to get the gym stuff together and prepare to do my cycling, so take care all.
