(Old) It's A Brand New MMP

Well, the day was going along as expected: puzzles, wordle, exercise, etc. Then, here I was, having a nice piece of buttered toast when a crown came off. Luckily I didn’t swallow it, and even luckier I was able to grab an appointment in a couple of hours. Not the kind of excitement I prefer to experience, but something that should (hopefully) be easily fixed.

This last month was a confusing one for quilting. I picked up a package for month six and let it sit for a while. In the class I used a large post it to take notes on the instructions. I stuck the note in the middle of the page for month six. When I got started, I cut the month six fabric for the month seven blocks. I did not have enough of four of the fabrics so I made a trip to the fabric store and talked to the teacher. He cut me some more fabric, and back home I went. I finished month seven and while I was clearing up my instruction book I realized my mistake. I started right in on month six and got it done in plenty of time for class.

Now, everyone else, that payed better attention than I did, is now working on seven. This leaves me with four weeks with nothing to sew, so I started a new project to fill in the gaps.

Month seven:

This is the new project I am picking up, which will be my project number six:

I took MIL to get a haircut. Then she wanted to get a new hairband (she got 3) followed by a stop at Harris Teeter for her favorite lemon cake. Boy is that store proud of their stuff - the ice cream I bought at Food Lion for $3.50 was $7.99 at Teeter! Eeeesh! Anyway, after that, I drove my car thru a car wash and now we’re home. The car wash has guaranteed rain will fall.

Anyway, that’s been my afternoon so far.

Very cool!

TIL!!! Thank you. Hubs didn’t know it either and was amused to learn as well.

Considering how long they’ve been around, it is really surprising that they can’t be found in c-stores and travel centers all across the country.

I’m so happy that things are looking up for you guys. I was getting kinda worried.

Good on both of you! I’ll join you next week.

I got my Tdap last year when whooping cough was burning through the old lady population in the Lakes. It was a non-event. Do plan for a day off after both Shingrix shots, evey one I know, myself included, who has had them has always been very unhappy the next day.

Yeah, boooo!

I figured that no power was a good excuse to have biskits and gravy so I took myself to Tudors. The road closure was between us and town so I had to go the other way to get across the river and come in from the back. After I finished eating, I came home the regular way and saw power lines on the ground and a couple of firefighters dealing with a burning transformer.

I was starting to get parched by the time the power was back on, I didn’t want to open the freezer for ice or the fridge for a lemon so I was forced to drink room temp r/o water. My suffering was so intense!

The little red-haired, green-eyed beauty just strutted into my home and stole both my men. What else could I call her, LOL!!!

She is doing so much better today. Now is the dangerous time, she’s not healed but she thinks she is and it’s hard to convince cats or dogs to stay quiet when they have the zoomies.

I’m glad you job is still going well and that you had a great Labor day with family. Hubs is getting his medical stuff taken care of, he had his yearly EKG and had x-rays taken of his back and shoulders so the VA will set him up with regular chiropractic visits. The VA here seems super responsive, he’s said good things about them which makes me happy.

And the heat!!! Geeze louise!!!

On my way back from town I was able to see that the fire had not damaged the trees, it was just cleaning up the underbrush. I know that this is how it should be done, but after a lifetime of living in wildfire country…its just really strange watching it burn unattended.

Oh, I did that once with thread. The words I said when I figured it out made the cats run and hide. How frustrating. Your work is beautiful, I can sure see the improvement in your corners. Are you doing your new project in the greens shown or different colors? No matter what, I know it will be beautiful.

So besides the fire and power going out, we also lost the internet. For whatever reason, hub’s can’t use his phone hot spot so everything is running on my phone. I could watch the battery draining, LOL! I put it in the car to charge but after the power came back on, I brought it in and plugged into a proper power source and it is back to 50%.

The window measuring guys were here today and said that they know how to work around pets, so wouldn’t touch the window/s in the room the pets were confined until another room was ready for them. We are still going to a motel for the day because I don’t want to listen to it.

I just got back from the supermarket’s Dept of Licensing counter, where I’ve ordered a Collector plate for my 1994 Yamaha XJ600 Seca II. I have the registration, but the plate will come in the mail. No hurry. On the paperwork I started writing ‘16/09’, but the form said mm/dd/yyyy so I crossed out the 16. Oops. Can’t do that. No crossing-out allowed! The woman helping me filled out the form again, and I formatted the date correctly that time.

While I was at the store, I got some Sara Lee Delightful Multi-Grain bread, which the other supermarket was out of yesterday. I also hit up the buy-it-before-it-rots bin for some Jenny-O turkey taco meat, and some chicken breakfast links, for $2.99 each.

I agree. I filled a prescription before retiring and it cost $50 for a 90 day supply. I went to refill on my Medicare based insurance after retiring and it was bumped up to $420!

I’ve been kinda mulling over something MIL said when we were driving home today. She declared that when you can no longer drive, your life is over. I said it was just changed, but she insisted that once you have to depend upon/impose upon others, that’s it. What a depressing thought! I hate to think that having to ask someone to drive me to Food Lion means my life is over. Life as I knew it, maybe, but life? Hardly.

It’s also come to my attention again that she carries a lot of prejudices, tho she’d deny it. Not really surprising for one of her generation, but the way she refers to some people or groups is unsettling. I have to wonder what she really thinks about her mixed-race great-grandkids. But I just take a deep breath and avoid ensuing arguments - it’s not worth the aggravation.

Welp, $200 to put the crown back in, but she says I need a new one. That will cost between $1400-$1800, depending on what kind of prep it needs.

Well, I could get huffy about that, but won’t. I don’t have time for prejudices, as the right’s politics suck up all my anger. Also, I have a gay grandson who has a black boyfriend, a trans granddaughter who is on the autism spectrum, two grandkids who have ADHD and really struggle with life issues that the rest of us take for granted, and another granddaughter who has had hearing aids since she was very young.

From last week’s MMP:

Sad, but not because of the apple. I normally make oatmeal with approximately 1.25:1 ratio of milk to water. But I didn’t have enough milk, so it was 1:4 milk to water. Still edible, but not my best effort.

Holy Lego, Batman! That’s a lotta Lego blocks. Nice work!

And like every other state food, there are different variations. Sounds like a road trip is needed. For testing purposes, of course.

Seems to happen rather often. My mom took her brother for a coffee and their dad passed while they were both gone.

Nice of you to pick up another project so you can share more pictures of your wonderful handiwork.

My grandmother had a similar thought. She had always been the person who took care of everybody else and she didn’t want to be the person who had to be helped. I think it’s just how some people were raised, because my other grandmother was quite happy to be waited on.

We thought we could have breakfast as the Starbucks down the street, but it didn’t have any seating. Took us a bit, but we finally found one with seating. Downtown Boston is not as empty as San Francisco, but the sidewalks are fairly empty.

The CVS even had toothbrushes locked up, which was a first for me.

Going to dinner to a place that says they have a business casual dress code. Guess we’ll find out if jeans pass the test, since I had no idea there was a dress code until the person who made the reservation mentioned it today. I’ve yet to see a dress code in a Swiss restaurant, so I wonder if this is more American

Hopefully we’ll manage to stay awake through dinner - the 6 hour time change gets tougher every time.

She doesn’t. The grands aren’t like those other xxxx, they are different.

My dad was extremely racist, but adored his mix-race grands. He also thought that their father was a good person despite causally calling him a wetback as some sort of friendly nickname. As the father never decked dad, I agree that he was a very good person.

Have you signed up for an advantage plan yet? If not, please look into it. My maintenance meds went from 50 a month to 0. You can check the formulary for each plan online before making any choices.

Hub’s life will be over when he can no longer drive. When I have to give it up, my new life of leisure will be just fine. I won’t be asking people for rides, I’ll be using the very robust bus and senior transport system so I’m still independent, but won’t be risking killing people.

So…the internet is still out and my phone can’t power his games. He’s starting to get impatient and even went to town hoping to be able to get an idea as to what is happening because he can’t get an answer on the phone.

Of course, he didn’t say that. Earlier I had been whining about no ice and thought that we should start keeping a bag in the freezer that we could quickly pull out and put in an ice chest to use for ice water. I had already filled a gallon freezer bag with ice for drinking and started filling a garbage bag for ice chest ice so then he had to fess up.

The ISP has three trucks working on the pole despite the fire still smouldering under them. Hot and so smokey, I hope nobody passes out and falls out of their bucket.

Cookie - Getting huffy gets you nowhere. That’s why I don’t bother. I’d call her on anything blatant, but stuff that’s more implied, I just let go. She’s 93 - I’m certainly not going to change her mind. Ya gotta pick your battles with some people.

Dicey - I’ve not encountered dress codes at restaurants, but then again, the places around here aren’t exactly dress code kinda places.

Posted this on FB - I was picking a chicken carcass after boiling it for stock, and this got stuck in my head. Who remembers it?

OK, gotta figger out something for supper. Maybe I’ll let everyone forage. At least I know what to give Higgs.

Yes, I have an advantage plan that has a grocery allowance, otc funds and silver sneakers. Since annual enrollment is coming up I’m going to talk to to my rep about it. Thanks for asking!

I almost forgot to thank you for the reminder and how rude would that have been? I took the big bin out after reading which confused hubs to no end. That is his job and this was the fourth time I’ve done it in our marriage. The other times were after his heart surgery, I made him do it when he had COVID because I’m an unsympathetic bitch.

So thank you for the reminder, it was much appreciated!

Thank you. I am using different fabric but i am using shades of green. I will also incorporate some yellows. The pattern is from Jelly Roll Quilts for all Seasons by Scott Flanagan, a friend of mine and a genius quilt designer. He works primarily in batiks but I had a bunch of a fabric line called Stonehenge

Thanks

Yes, Ohio. Just got the deets an hour ago and I’m all booked. It’s just a short one-week gig; leaving Sunday and getting back the following Saturday.

It looks like Springfield is only 45 minutes away…

Beautiful work, hippie!

I knew what it was going to be before clicking. Hundreds of repetitions in phys ed while growing up in Maryland.

Never heard it before.
