Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 19c/67f with a predicted high of 26c/78f, and sunny. Weather app says “Look on the fucking bright side. At least it’s not cold as fuck outside.”
Today we are celebrating the birthday of our fearless leader, fashion guru, and World Champion RDOS.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 74 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 89 with scattered late afternoon showers. I swear the forecast has been the same for at least the past two weeks. The big plan of the day is N.O.L. at Longhorn Steaks cause it is my bday and that’s what I want to do. Other than that 'twill be the usual RDOS inactivities.
BooFae, MOOOOOOM, and Hippie thanks for the bday wishes. A friend, who now lives in Japan, wished me happy bday last night on the book of faces bein’ as it was already Moanday in Japan by then. He said welcome to the seventies. OK, fine, I will relive the seventies as long as these seventies don’t include leisure suits and platform shoes.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, I suppose I must purtify and don acceptable attire for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Since I want to do this I shall not be in woe.
Smarter than the average bear!
Woot.
I am not having as much fun as you today, just off to Walmart.
They say it may storm later, but every time they say that, it doesn’t!
In office day today and I’m currently sitting at Haggen waiting for it to open. I’ll collect my yogurt and a 'nanner, and maybe a treat for those in the office. Ten more minutes and then the store will open.
And so another week begins its journey. We had a great meal at the niece’s house. Her husband is an excellent hobby chef. The smoked/barbecued ribs were fall-apart tender with a beautiful bark. He made creamed corn from fresh ears, which I’ve never had from scratch and it’s now a fave. We had to brave the wiener dog maelstrom upon arrival. Since their kids were also in attendance, there were eight barking hunds swirling around in a state of absolute hysteria when we came in. Total mayhem. We managed to dodge all of the road construction delays both down and back, so the drive was a reasonable 40 minutes or so.
I think fried egg sandwiches are today’s breakfast choice at chez moi.
We have Cointreau, which supposedly is a type of Triple Sec, but not labeled as such. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bottle of just Triple Sec in a store.
Some time ago (a decade? more?) I bought margarita salt when I was in the U.S. It’ll probably outlast me, since I’m usually lazy and don’t bother. But last week’s restaurant margarita had table salt, so I’ve been jonesing for a properly salted rim. I just found the margarita salt and put it on the kitchen counter - ready for this evenings libations.
When we got the bedrooms painted, we got a gift certificate from the painting company as they are celebrating 60 years of being in business. Today we traded it, plus some additional money, for some cake slices. We got 6 different kinds, included a slice of their idea of cheesecake. The cheesecake wasn’t so bad, but there’s no grahamcracker crust. In fact, it is crustless. What’s the point of a cheesecake if it doesn’t have a crust?
That sounds divine. Will you try making it? The corn here isn’t worth it - midwest American corn is so much better.
This week is week 2 of vacation, but this part is at home. Thursday is Swiss National Day, so there will be lots of fireworks this week. Hopefully it’s wet enough that there won’t be any forest fires.
Other excitement today was taking my watch to get a new battery. Seems there’s always something wanting attention.
Good morning all. After a relatively cool week we’re heading back into 90F weather, at least the clouds are still about so not that much direct radiation. About a 1-in-4 chance for more rain but then it’ll dry out for the rest of the week, sayeth the Weather Wizards. the Four S’s (shop-sammich-swim-sauna) are on the agenda and soccer may add a fifth to the mix if the rain holds off.
swampy, happy Birthday and welcome to the 70+ club; I joined about 1.3 years ago and so far it has been pretty nice here, just take care when things start breaking down as they invariably will.
Dicey, enjoy the week of sloth.
Cookie, being in a house with a pack of wiener dogs would be a wonderful thing…if you like certain levels of mayhem…
And off to do the morning internettin’; have a good week all.
The morning started productively, but then came to a screeching halt.
We got the dogs to daycare, and I was very early for my blood test appointment. I got there at 720 for an 815 appointment. The check-in machine asked me if I wanted an available 745 appt. Of course! The nurse/receptionist called me over. I said I was early for my appt, and she said what appt? I was out of there at 735.
We got home, cleaned out the truck, trimmed the weeds, put the new slipcover on my son’s wing chair, put in a load of laundry, paid a few bills, and ate breakfast.
He went to bed. When he gets up, we will take the truck through the car wash, put on new seat covers, pick up the dogs, and pick up a script.
I forgot Echo’s birthday yesterday, so we’ll stop for ice cream to celebrate today.
Several years ago, I bought two wing chairs. One was $250, one was $500. The $250 (his) looks like crap, the $500 (mine) looks practically new. Everybody told me $500 was too much for a chair. I think I should have bought two of them.
While he is napping, I’ll get some small stuff done around here. I have energy today, I need to take advantage while it lasts.
My main non-crap email address has been getting spammed with all manner of snake oil offers. Including a bunch to give me a rock-hard, um, appendage that will drive women wild. I don’t know how my address got on that list but I keep reporting the spam. Maybe it’ll stop some day.
I pulled some poke out of the freezer for tonight’s supper. Sides will be chosen later. And I’ll cut open the cantaloupe. So that’s decided.
I’ve left my boo-boo unbandaged today - I think it should heal better in the air, right? At least it doesn’t itch. But I will cover it before I go to the credit union. No one wants to see that mess.
Happy (actual) Birthday, Swampy!! I hope today is absolutely phenomenal.
It’s grey and rainy here, but will apparently be hot enough to warrant a warning later. I’m working at home because of yet another orthodontist appointment (it’s appointment-palooza until the kids start actual school) and my husband and I are trying to divide and conquer. Week before last we had 3 ortho/dentist appointments; last week we had 4; this week there are 3. I guess that’s what happens when you have two kids getting braces off around the same time.
In other news, I’m playing around with a sourdough starter while I’m at home. My son is deeply disturbed to learn that the whole point of a starter is to encourage bacterial growth in a controlled environment, then eat said bacteria ad infinitum until you get tired of managing the starter or it dies. He described it as a “seething mass.” At least my husband and daughter will eat it. I’m not technically supposed to have gluten, but I do enjoy making bread, and the homemade stuff tends to have fewer “consequences” than store-bought.
Oh, well - off to work. I started writing this about an hour ago and now it’s sunny and quickly getting steamy as a sauna outside. Guess I’ll have to either go to the gym tonight to work out or wait to waddle 'til sunset. I should probably try lifting heavy things, so leaning toward the gym. Onward!
So I had 8 minutes to teach two guys from another shift how to do my job, before I got sent to Secondary, then sent to the 200 Slide, since the Senior Clerk was out. It went smooth till it didn’t. People started bringing me stuff, plus the lady who they put in the Mez instead of me didn’t know how to use ERA, so I had to fix those items. Plus putting 3 damaged beds back in their boxes. But a long day makes dogbutler’s wallet happy.
Also:
6 days till vacation.
150 days till Festivus.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY swampy!!!
It could be fun, if you enjoy watching meth-ed up hillbillies shop.
They have them here. I use Dry Curacao in mine. Maybe I should get some Cointreau and do a test, purely in the interest of science.
