Difference? What?

Come on, Chief:

Buns, you slip something in between.
Rolls, They’re smaller and you eat 'em on the side.

Hot cross buns? An exception?

Right about buns, but rolls are the things you hang onto while you’re slipping something into the buns(they’re also known as love handles).

Mmmmm… Dinner rolls. So bad for you but sooooo good.

::hankerin’ for a chicken-fried steak with a dinner roll on the side::

Dinner rolls are rolls, unless you grew up in the mid-west in the early 50’s. My dad insists on calling them buns, and when he comments on how great they look at any restaurant, it is inevitable that the waitress turns around with an evil look on her face.

I may be over simplifying, oh wait we are talking about bread products for goodness sakes . . . buns are what hotdogs are put on, rolls are what hamburgers go on . . .then again maybe I am just a carnivore

I never use “buns” at all…I’m not sure whether this is a New York thing, or if it’s just personal.

Hamburgers go on rolls. Hot dogs go on frankfurter rolls. Cream cheese on an onion roll for breakfast…brisket on a hard roll…capicola and genoa salami and provolone on a hero roll. If you bake something to be served alongside Sunday dinner, those are rolls, too.

okatym…

good one!

And Ann’s (my wife) is just the right size!

ChiefScott:
You’re right. Sweet breakfast breads(e.g., hot cross buns, honey buns) are an anomaly.

Good one! I boasted in another thread of my prowess at unintended double entendres.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

But renaissanceman, are you sure it was unintentional? It seemed so glaringly obvious to me. Maybe it’s just where my head is, but I thought it was apropos, given that butt thread in GD.

Rolls are smaller and usually are a rich egg dough, but the dough can very. You eat them as a side dish.

Buns are larger and mainly used to put your other food into.

Is there a distorted echo in this thread?
