Best fast food place for a major burger chain is Burger King and thy will cook the burger for you in the morning, when other places say it’s not 11:00 yet. At Mc the cook can’t fry a burger and a sausage at the same time, the two meats look the same after cooking.
The absolete worst fast food joint for a meal is Steak’N Shakes from my personal horrible experiences. The last try I ordered a chocolate malt, a bacon cheese burger and large fries. I get the malt first, and the waitress is here’s you shake sir. Me “I ordered a malt.” Her “Malt shake there’s no difference.” Me “No they’re not same.”
The meal came cold. The fries were the size of shoestring potatoes, which means the were cold about one minute out of the deep frier. Now for the bacon cheese burger. The meat was so thin that there were holes through the patty. The meat was probaly less than 2 ounces. There was one strip of bacon, and about 1/8 cup of chese sauce poured on it. The type of sauce in the resteraunt size cans for torillia chips. The whole meal was cold, and the hamburger so gross I couln’t eat it. I will never go back to any store in that chain again. I await the sign in the window saying building for lease. I just remembered, that the lady across from us was discussing the same shit with the manager.
Yet another Californian voting for In’N’Out. Not only excellent burgers, but also great innuendo for those long boring road trips.
Hard to think of another chain I think so highly of. Juicy Burger is pretty good. Tommy’s is tasty, but somewhat repulsive as well (and you have to watch the spelling, as there are low-quality imitators sprinkled around the LA area too). I am really repelled by McDonald’s, though.
I gotta go with the In’N’Out urge. Unbeatable. Then is Carls Jr. The Dbl. Western Bacon was a heart attack in a bun, but awesome.
Can’t get those now, so for the standby’s it’s Burger King, and White Castle. I used to love Wendy’s, but they got away from the super greasy burgers a few years ago and haven’t been the same since.
And I am still laughing like hell over a place called “Sir Loins”. It’s so wrong that it’s rich! Being an advertiser for that place must be a riot. “Come to Sir Loins, who has the biggest and juiciest piece of meat that fits so nicely between the moist firm buns, and finished with a spattering of special sauce”… Oh, I’m having too much fun with this!
Very partial to the Burger King Veggie Whopper. I have mine with real, heavy mayo (as opposed to the default egg-free mayo which makes it ok for vegans), plus cheese and bacon. Yum!!
BTW is it true that Burger King in the USA doesn’t sell the Veggie Whopper???
I don’t know about California and the other states, but I’ve never seen a veggie burger in any of the major fast food places - Burger King, McDonald’s or Wendy’s - or even the smaller chains in the US.
Really? I’ve eaten at a few of these restaurants ans in all of them you ordered your burgers, got them from a counter, then took them over to the “fixins bar” to build the burger. None had waitresses. Of course it’s been a couple of years . . .
Have to vote for Fuddruckers though.
Best burger I ever had, though, was not at a chain but at a little ice cream/brger shop in Ketchikan Alaska called Dairy King. Hand packed patty. Delicious. AND, they’ll cook them medium rare if you want. Great fries too.
After having just read “Fast Food Nation” (a review here) I don’t know if I want to be eating fastfood of any kind… of course, in a week or so my desire for a Big Mac will probably surpass my idealistic rage at the fast food and meat processing industry. Still, an incredibally informative book… read it, read it!! (sorry about the slight hijack!)
I have to go with In-N-Out as well, followed by Carls Jr, and (can’t believe no one else has mentioned it yet) Jack In The Box.
JITB has that cheeseburger that is just meat and cheese and bacon and a bun. No fooling around with lettuce or tomatoes or onions, straight to the heart attack at hand.
I mentioned it earlier. But I thought they were out of business. Last one I saw in Denver had ruined it’s menu and was desperately trying to be a Dennys.
My all-time favorite JitB item was called a “Jack Steak”. A cubed-steak (sort of a thick hamburger) on a long bun, with a wonderful steak sauce, shredded lettuce and onions and topped with onion rings.
A) What state are you in (if you don’t mind me asking)
B) Do the JitBs still have the Jack Steak?
(It may be time for a trip. I loved those sandwiches!)
A) Currently Washington State, although there were JitB’s in and around San Clemente CA (about 2 years ago last I was there).
B) Not that I’ve seen on the menu. They’ve gone a long way to get out of the just burger business. They have a whole bunch of chicken items: chicken (spicy or otherwise) sandwiches, chicken fajitas, teriyaki chicken rice bowls and even some fish.
Another vote cast for In-N-Out. Always fresh, hot and tasty
and the bun is yummmmmmmmy. Plus I love their fries, better
than any other fast food place I have visited.
I had a good burger at Sonic in Phoenix once, but no one has mentioned that place yet so maybe it was a fluke. They make fresh lime slushes to get you through those HOT days, very tasty.
I’m passing through Madison around lunchtime… if it’s not out of the way, I’ll check it out! I’m trying to avoid fast food joints in favor of regional and “real” cuisines.
The best burger joint I’ve ever been to is the one in San Antonio, Texas, around the corner from my parents’ house. They have a veggie burger to die for and make all food fresh. I forget what it’s called, tho.
Jack in the Box is alright. Wendy’s and Burger King are better.
White Castle is GREAT, and FWIW, I NEVER heard the ‘sliding down the wall’ thing, either. Too bad they’re not a western chain >sigh<
slight hijack… one of my best ‘lunch experiences’ was at a place called ‘Pat’s Old Corral’ in Centennial, Wyoming. Ordered a Steak Sandwich, and got a Rib-eye on a bun. Don’t think that will ever be topped.
Nope, I’ve never seen a Veggie Whopper anywhere, here on the west coast at least. My vote goes to Nell’s-N-Out, which is a sort of old-fashioned drive-thru place here, but for chains, Burgerville has good veggie burgers.
Just wanted to point out that the actual reason McD’s can’t cook burgers while they are still cooking sausage is that the grills are set up on timers and height requirements that are specific for each meat. The grills must be changed over from one to the other before cooking. (You can, hypothetically, cook a sausage patty on a grill that has been changed over but of course, it “rarely” happens, if ever ;))
Harvey’s not only gets my vote for best fast-food burger, but they also have a good veggie burger. I don’t know if they have any branches in the US, though.
