There’s this program on the USA television network called Burn Notice, and one of the premises(for the first few seasons, at least) is that the main character is stuck in Miami, Florida, and will get in a boatload of trouble with various government agencies if he leaves town.
What Town/City would you want to get stuck in indefinitely if this were to happen to you for some reason? The rules are:
No leaving city limits.
It has to have a minimum population of 300,000 people.
See, this makes it rather hard; take Montreal for example (which I’m quite content to live in forever).
Montreal is an agglomeration of several municipalities, but they don’t take up the whole island. There are patches of the Islandthat aren’t formally part of Montreal but would be rather hard to avoid: would I diligently have to go around Westmount, the Town of Mount-Royal, Hampstead, Côte-St-Luc and Montreal-Ouest? Could I use the metro, because some of it passes through those cities? What about bus routes? Burn Notice is always showing scenes near an airport or in industrial sectors…I wouldn’t be able to go to Dorval?
Using official city limits gets rather complicated in some cases!
Then definitely San Diego. There are virtually no “holes” in the county, and just about everyplace I’d want to go is within city limits. Sorry, Stone Brewing, but I can still get your beers even though your brewery in too far north.
