Burned out on celebrities? WTF

Well, here’s the straw. But I don’t want to single out Gazelle from Hell, I just don’t get why people feel they are somehow “subjected to” celebrity news about some individuals to the point that it’s actually painful. It seems like these celebs are suns in the sky, you can’t avoid them if you go out, and you’ll quickly get a painful burn.

I know, I know… Britney, Christina, Jlo and Ben, they’re all annoying publicity whores. But WTF, are you sentenced by a Judge to read People, or watch MTV or VH1? Are you in some kind of nighmarish A Clockwork Orange scenario with your head in a vise and your eyelids pinned open?

You know… I watch TV, and surf the net, and read every fucking day, and I don’t come across these people all that often.

All I can say is, expose your self to some real literature, and some other media. I don’t even say “alternative” media, because there’s PLENTY of mainstream media that doesn’t give a shit about the personal lives or upcoming tours of celebs. If you’re posting to this board, you HAVE other options, so TRY them. Otherwise, the ONLY way you’ll “escape” from one celebrity is if another one supplants the first.

I don’t even know what Christina and Ben look like unless he was that guy who used to show up from time to time on Politically Incorrect. I didn’t know who Britney was until my fifteen year old granddaughter bound and gagged me and made me listen.

That’s okay. Vic Damone and I shall have our revenge.

The place where I work airs ‘Inside Edition’, and everytime they say, 'When we come back, we’ll show you what (insert celebrity name here) was wearing at (insert award show here). I don’t CARE what someone wore, it doesn’t interest me in the least. Unfortunately, I can’t escape from it, since it airs during my shift, so I have to somewhat keep an eye on the show. But I will do other things work-related to keep myself entertained while paying as little attention to the show as possible.

Note to self: Use preview next time…
and everytime they say, 'When we come back, we’ll show you what (insert celebrity name here) was wearing at (insert award show here), I want to SCREAM…
Forgot to finish my sentence, there.

Well, it isn’t that the judge has sentenced you to watch MTV or read People, the thing is, when you load up cnn.com and there are all those links to stories? And even though you don’t click on them to find out who JLo is marrying this week, still you get a wee annoyed, there in the back of your mind, by seeing the same names scroll past repeatedly, Robert Downey Jr., Winona Ryder, et al.

I blame cnn.com for that, not JLo and Robert and Winona.

I’d drop dead of shock if I ever saw, say, Ian McKellan or Helen Mirren’s names in the list.

I am weary of hearing about J-lo or Britney, but I don’t feel too overloaded by the brief mention on the few news programs I watch daily.

I’d also like to point out that every since I was a wee thing, I’ve been able to happily avoid certain forms of popular music. I am blissfully unaware of most of the rock “classics” that everyone else raves about. I simply don’t expose myself to music that I don’t like. (A really easy way to do this is to listen to tapes or CDs in your car and not the radio.) I am completely oblivious to many songs that everyone else seems to know like the back of their hand. I’ve been like this since I was a kid. I’ve missed out on whole eras of popular music. Didn’t miss out on much, in my opinion.

It’s really quite possible to go through life and only have the vaguest clue who the current “big names” are in popular culture, like popular music. I’ve done it. Even though I watch my fair share of TV, (a lot of news and the SciFi Channel), I still manage to be only vaguely aware of many “big names” that are currently all the rage. It’s quite possible to not get oversaturated.
