Burning a back up CD/DVD question

Just got around to burning my itunes onto dvd, and it is currently ‘burning disc … finishing’ and it may take up to an hour …

Why does it take 20 minutes to burn the files, but an hour to ‘finish’ them? What is it doing when it ‘finishes’ burning?

The finishing process involves closing the data track and session. Which amounts to writing some extra bits at the end.

This process should NOT take an hour, however. More like a few seconds to a minute. Sounds like you may have an issue with either your software settings and/or your hardware.

vista … do i need to say anything more?

if i was doing this using nero on my xp box id be done right now …

I’ve never used the built in vista burning thingy… (I do use vista, but I usually use nero with it) but I think I know what your problem might be.

There is a setting that allows a write once disc to be used almost like a re-writable one. If you are using that feature, closing the sessions might take longer. Though I still don’t see why it would take an hour, maybe a couple of minutes tops.
