With less that four weeks to go, it’s time for the annual question: Who’s attending?
After five years of being begged to come by a very good friend, I will be. I’ll be camping with her at Poly Paradise, Chaos at 4:30 (I like the sound of that). Turns out the camp daddy is a 'Zonie and the Arizona Burner community is pretty active. I’ll be doing my volunteer stint with the Lamplighters; they got cool looking robes. My playa name is Corvus.
Me.
I’ll be camped at G and 6:00.
The last two years I’ve taken our 5th wheel and done the burn in style and ease. But Ms Hook put her foot down this year. Hard to blame her for that. You can clean all you want when you get home but you will be finding playa dust for the next year.
This year it’ll be a 12’ 30 year old loaner for me.
I’ll stop by and see you.
That’s me in the first picture http:// www. golfco7thmar. com/BM2007-1
Write back and tell us what it was like. It’s always sounded interesting to me, but distance and circumstances have prevented me from actually going.

SandyHook, I broke the link in your post because of the two-click rule on NSFW pictures in MPSIMS. Anyone who wishes to see the pictures can copy & paste the URL into the address bar of their Web browser, and then remove the spaces.

Thank you for the Pix, SandyHook. I’ll have to recognize the beads, I guess.
Anybody else out there?
Well, I’m on the bus. I hope my 1984 4Runner makes it. It’s gonna be packed to the gills. I’ve got a humongous ice chest and the bottom layer of it is beer. I’m trying to freeze 4 2.5 gallon containers of water to use as ice. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that my freezer does not have infinite heat sucking capabilities, and I may fail completely. I’ve actually farmed my project out to two other friend’s freezers. We’ll see.
I’m a newbie and I’m just hanging out with a couple sets of friends. I’m riding a 1960’s era girl’s Schwinn Racer that has a tiny amount of original blue paint under a bunch of rust. It has a two speed kickback rear hub that really doesn’t work. It was sitting in my backyard for 20 years. It was hell trying to get it to run. Do not try to rebuild a Bendix Automatic 2-speed coaster brake hub on short notice without ever having done it before.
I’ll be wearing a bike helmet covered with marshmallows. I may or may not be in the vicinity of 3 o’clock B. Hopefully, I’ll see you guys out there!
My ex and his friends are already on their way there. If you see a guy with purple and white dreadlocks, say hi.
Were any Dopers there last year when some guy tried to burn the Man a couple days ahead of time?
I haven’t been since 1998 since I haven’t been able to afford to get out there since then. How have things been since then? I’ve heard rumors of the vibe changing, with frat boys showing up and so forth. And some stricter rules. And much higher ticket prices. Is any of that true?
I’m sure the vibe has changed, but my experience in traveling is that if you’ve never been there before, it’s a brand new experience (like I said, I’m a newbie). My ticket was $300. I suspect it was cheaper in 1998.
Holy moly lol. I’m pretty sure mine was under $100. What’s that all going towards? There’s bathrooms and some cleanup crew and I guess the land rental, but $300/person worth? Everything else is no spectator…
I suspect there’s a lot more than just cleanup crew & land rental.
I’ll make it up there one of these days.
