Buses don't indicate they are parked on busy streets

When I go to work I turn left just before work onto a busy street, then take the next right on a 4 lane street. So I take the right lane. There is a city bus that parks there for whatever reason for 10 minutes at a time - sometimes. So I wait long enough behind him to see that he is not moving, wait a light or two to get into the left lane for 40 feet so I can go around him, and get back into my routine 5 minutes later. It happens often enough that it is annoying.

Why don’t buses have some system to signal they are parking on a major street? I realize they might not be able to turn on their flashers as this indicates other things like -“traffic must stop” or “let me merge”, although I am not sure if this is true for all buses, or just school buses.

I don’t think it is in the system’s interest to make us truly hate buses for reasons other than they slow traffic down to a crawl at the best of times, and like to crush small cars while doing lane changes.

I used to run a bus system. Sometimes the buses are running early and have to wait at a schedule point for a few minutes to get back on schedule. Perhaps they could adopt a policy of activating heir flashers if they are in a travel lane. Why not ask the wo/man who runs it? Here’s the Calgary Transit’s web site:

Disclaimer: If I was in Calgary, I’d probably be riding that bus.

That said, why not turn left a block or two before your usual spot?

Because later he’d still have to turn right where the bus is.
