Bush demands a standing ovation.

BUSH: CLAP ME OR NO EU SPEECH
Maybe Bush wanted a venereal disease before speaking. I could see why the European Parliament turned down that request.

I find that perfectly acceptable. Maybe it’s a British English thing.

Maybe Bush said “Clap me”? Be honest: Would you be surprised if he had?

I want to believe this is a joke, but I dunno. I remember the very believable tales from the Ohio State commencement ceremony last year. Anything’s possible.

Well, I will wait for more reliable reports before believing it, but if true, the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Who can forget his father’s famous words: “Sit down and shut up!” One thing is for sure, wimpy petulance runs riot in the family.

Well, I will say, the Mirror, from what I understand, is nothing more than a little tabloid rag.

It’s on BBC too, though.

And the BBC site names the source.

Can someone link to the BBC story?

The source is Baroness Williams, quoting unnamed Euro-MPs. Ms. Williams is a liberal Democrat, who opposes Bush’s Iraq policy.

Does anyone know how reliable a source she is?

Jaako linked to it further up the thread.

“Jaako linked to it further up the thread.”
Oops. Sorry about that.

Yes the BBC story is very credible since the source is on the record. Amazing.

I say, december, old chap, what kind of Baroness is a Liberal Democrat? Rather a sticky wicket, what? Didn’t know they had such as “Liberal Democrats” in jolly Old England, what used to be Great Britain?

It surprised me, too, but who am I to argue with the Times of London?

The devil you say! The Times? Well, thats all sorted out then. Did they refer to GeeDubya as a “right wanker” or as an “extreme right wanker”?

Um, I’m pretty sure the Liberal Democrats are the centrist third party in the UK, formed by a merger of the old Liberal party and the newer Social Democrats (who had separated from Labour in its extremist era, along with a few disaffected non-Thatcherite Tories). With Labour largely centrist themselves these days, the LibDems are free to tell the truth, unencumbered by the possibility of winning.

Did I get that right, you Brits?

You’re not seriously going to ask the opinions of people who can’t even spell “labor” right, and have no idea how to pronounce “schedule”.

Yes, spot on ElvisL1ves, the Liberal Democrats are the central wing party in Great Britain (though with Labour swinging further right than it has in other time in it’s history, you could say their centrist position has been outflanked).

Also due to the rapid decline of the Conservative party they have a reasonable chance of becoming Britain’s second party (that is if the Conservatives contiune to pick no-hopers as their party leaders).

They are almost certainly telling the truth when they say “a source close to the negoitations”, but this is probably all they have. Papers like the Mirror will publish stories that they cannot 100% confirm in order to get the scoop, but are unlikely to fabricate a story.

Yeah, everybody knows that the proper way to pronounce “schedule” is skuh-DOOL-ee.
