Bush Tapes

I just heard there were secret tapes made by a “friend” of President Bush. While I do not like President Bush, but this story makes me mad. I hope no one buys this guy’s book I hope his publishing company loses it’s shirt. I also would like to hope the guy is wrong and he did actually cross the line and is prosecutable. Of all the low scum ass things to do to your friend. Secretly tape him then use the tapes to cash out you relationship.

What do you mean by you “hope hes wrong?” The tapes speak for themselves. In fact, even though I cant stand Bush, the tapes reveal a more human and compassionate side that people often deny exists. And personally, I couldn’t care less that he smoked pot. He never denied it, just said its “NOYB”.

I hope the guy that made the tapes is wrong in his belief that he wasn’t breaking any laws secretly recording Bush. I don’t actualy care much about what Bush did, in that i always assumed he did it anyway.

I loathe Bush, and I enjoy reading anything that makes him look bad, and I’ve read articles about a hundred different scandals I’d like to see stick. But even I don’t care if he smoked pot or didn’t own up to it while campaigning. He’s a twit for making fun of Gore, but otherwise this one leaves me cold.

My favorite part of the Reuters article is the last sentence: “Bush had not been in contact with Wead for several years.” Shouldn’t that be weed?

I was going to post something about this.

No matter what your political views, this was a lousy thing to do. What a dipshit.

I didn’t like it last time. I don’t like it this time.
However, there were some who liked it then: Linda Tripp Well-Wishers
I’ll bet they don’t like it now.

You know, I was just thinking of Tripp when I saw this.

Pretending to be someone’s friend so you can tape their conversations was the act of a lying, opportunistic scumbag then, and it’s the act of a lying, opportunistic scumbag now.

The fact that this is presented as a huge revelation says volumes about the credulity of the American people.

Is there really anyone out there who believes that Bush–a man who came of age in the Vietnam era, who didn’t so much run with the bad and overindulged crowd as defined it, who was known to be quite the party animal, and who had a well-documented problem with alcohol well into the eighties–might possibly have not ever smoked marijuana? Would these people be interested in buying some land?

Or a bridge.

I was a little embarassed for the country when the headline read: Secret Tapes Indicate Bush May Have Tried Marijuana.

When I read the article and realized the said tapes basically show how he was planning to specifically groom the religious vote, that he was going to probably go against what he felt was “right” in regard to homosexuals and that he was going to try and get the religious vote without turning off seculars.

It just shows the kind of raw political strategizing you don’t see on news bytes or anywhere else. I’m not making morals judgments about Bush doing those things. I’m actually glad it came out because it stands as proof of what I’ve said for a long time, love him or hate him Bush is a good politician. I think the innuendo and such is a lot more important and newsworthy than the non-story that he may have smoked weed.

The man is an admitted alcoholic, he’s probably not going to be ashamed at all that he once tried weed.

Oh, but he didn’t inhale!

Sorry, wrong smiley. I meant the winking one.

Did I miss a press release somewhere?

Don’t like the guy or his foreign policies, but he’s not my President so it’s not my problem: but shock revelations that he may have smoked some dope? He grew up in the 60’s and 70’s - of course he lit up a few fat ones, and more power to him - don’t do it any more, but I smoked my share back in the 80’s, and it makes me warm to the guy: at least it didn’t drown any campaign volunteers. As for the source of the “revelations”, what’s the legality {we all know the ethics, and they’re pretty wretched} of secretly recording private phone calls and releasing them publically in the States?

Pretty shitty thing to do to someone without their knowledge or permission. Bush’s rationale for not admitting that he’s tried pot is decent, if self-serving and hypocritical, but it also wears a little thin when he’s continued pushing for extremely harsh drug laws. Would that others could have his cavalier attitude towards smoking pot, instead of having their lives ruined even worse than what rapists or murderers get.

Wish he toked up more often. Better sitting around eating cheetos than invading foreign countries, IMO.

Maybe this explains why he had problems with that pretzel.

Also, for me the article has an ad with a monkey in a suit. Interesting :dubious:

You know what, I can’t stand the motherfucker, but a couple thoughts on this.

I don’t care that he smoked pot, I don’t care that he’s a drunk, I really don’t care he was a coke head. I’ve tried and enjoyed all three so I can’t down him for that. I’m in the camp of it’s nobody’s business what someone does in the privacy of their own home.

What the guy did was shitty, publish tapes of phone calls. I think when Linda Tripp did it to Monica it was shitty.

On the flip side, I’m kinda happy this happened. Not just because Bush is a pompous jackass, but to the whole slew of people who made such a big deal out of Clinton’s affairs and “he didn’t inhale”. They deserve a little heat on their side. Hypocrties come in all shapes and political affiliations. Since none of the other stuff seems to stick, maybe this will bring him down in some people’s eyes. I doubt it though, the past 4+ years have been one horrible thing after another.

In some ways, him being so candid about his past on these tapes almost gives a little shimmer of respect. Not full-blown respect, but the “I don’t give a shit what you think” kindof mindset. I can respect that in someone. Unfortunately, since the actions of this administration have been horrendous it doesn’t in any way make him less of a bastard to me.

Oh well, I hope he’s sweating like a whore in church. What goes around, comes around.

I don’t care about whether Bush smoked pot. It doesn’t matter. I don’t care that he used to drink. In the 60’s and 70’s plenty of other people were getting stoned too. It’s all irrelevant now. If he was getting toasted now, while making decisions, then I would care. If anything, the idea of a young Bush firing up a joint and getting the munchies makes him seem a bit more human and maybe likeable. I still don’t like him, but come on. Many people do go through a party animal phase in their late teens and early adulthood. Then they outgrow it and move on.

It seems that it’s not too uncommon to find references to people who are currently in highly responsible positions who once smoked a little weed.

What i want to know is exactly how many Presidents and Representatives and Senators and CEOs and doctors and lawyers have to be “outed” as former pot users before the lawmakers in this country will finally cave in to statistics and admit that toking up occasionally does not necessarily lead to a life of crack addiction, and does not necessarily make you a long-term drain on society.

I don’t care that Bush (or Clinton, for that matter) once smoked weed. I don’t care that he was once an alcoholic. I do care that every administration continues to take such a hard line on drugs like marijuana, and to insist that smoking a joint will lead to the downfall of western civilization, when there is such clear evidence that a few youthful tokes need not send you on a downward spiral to poverty and early death.
