We’ve been bombarded recently (at least I have) with talk about how awful it is that Bush is spending $40mil on his inauguration ceremony. Is this cost out of line with ceremonies of past presidents?
According to the *Wall Street Journal, *it’ll be at or near a record (the record being challenged is President Bush’s own from his first inauguration) but about the same, adjusted for inflation, as Clinton’s first inaugural. Inaugurations as a big multi-event deal apparently started with Reagan (hey, he’s from Hollywood, the world capital for pointless and semi-pointless parties
).
Speaking as someone who makes less than 11K/year, yeah its a couple of pizzas.
I know that they spend a lot of time there, but I don’t know that I’d necessarily call Hollywood the Democrats’ “world capital”.
He didn’t. He said it was the capital of pointless and semi-pointless parties…
…wait a minute…I get it!!
That one almost got by me.
Sorry, I’m still trying to figure out how to do the “bada-bum-bum-bum” bad-joke-drum-roll on a messageboard.
I hear that. I know my friends tell me to keep a spare $40M in my sock drawer for emergencies, but I just can’t seem to manage to get that deep in the pocket of corporate interests.
