In the leadup to the 2020 election, reminders and exhortations to vote have been coming from all sorts of businesses, and many are providing practical assistance in checking or doing voter registration on their websites or in their stores. Most of the efforts are nonpartisan, urging the viewers to go vote but not suggesting for who.
However, the GOP/Trumpist position seems to be that anything that makes it easier for more people to vote is pro-Democrat, unfair, and crooked.
Watching yet another “go vote!” TV ad from a business struck me with a thought: do diehard GOP or Trump supporters see all these businesses urging people to vote and making registration easier as a sign that the world has turned against them, or that businesses they presume would be pro-GOP (because to them Democrat=communist) aren’t? And if so, does it dishearten and challenge them, or does it harden their feelings that they’re the “real Americans” who would be in charge but for malign forces conspiring against them (deep state, mainstream media, Q-anon, etc.)?
Or are these ads & efforts mainly in “blue” areas where it makes the businesses look good, and they aren’t doing this in “red” areas? At least some of the ads I’ve seen have been from nationwide businesses, and an online effort is seen everywhere not just in “red” TV ad markets.
