Hey, any Dopers have any experience getting a small retail operation off the ground? My friend and I are planning to open a small business. We both have some retail management experience, but nothing higher up the foodchain. There are lots of resources on the web, but in order to steepen our learning curve and avoid as many stumbling blocks and pitfalls along the trial-and-error pathway, I was wondering if anyone could help us get this party started? Friendly advice is great, but we’re not averse to paying a consultant or lawyer or whatever the appropriate terminology might be. We’re in Chicago; looking at spaces in Evanston.
The organization SCORE might be a good place to start. Their misssion is to connect young entrepreneurs with business mentors - free.
