Bust of Dick Cheney to be displayed in the Capitol building

I honestly had not heard of this practice before, and my first reaction was "well, it’s not a requirement… Surely they left out a few of them. But, no, it sorta is a requirement, since 1947. They’re all up there, through Dan Quayle, who was placed there twelve years ago. (The response time seems highly variable. George H.W. Bush got his bust in 1991, two years after he finished serving as Veep, and while he was still president. Quayle had to wait ten years for his, and Al Gore still doesn’t have one, after fourteen years. )

I hope they engrave the base with the most notable thing he ever said while presiding over the Senate.

Blindfolds and sticks included?

They should rest a rifle on his shoulder.

Like some busts in football stadiums maybe all the warhawks will come rub his nose before votes on DoD budgets and military action.

I remember that one: it was over by the door, hollow glass instead of marble, filled with gumballs.

Isn’t “Capitol building” redundant? Like, the Capitol by definition is the building, yes?

I guess the Democrats forgot to put Gore’s bust up when they had control in 2009 and 2010.

I believe we already have a conceptual design.

Cheney was a VP?

Warmonger!

This is the kind of news item that makes me miss Jon Stewart big time.

George HW Bush has a new bio coming out that he cooperated with. He slams Cheney and Rumsfeld, and also says that 43 probably used too harsh rhetoric post-911.

In the NYTimes, Cheney and 43 say that if so, 41 didn’t say anything at the time.

Sigh.

Can we forget the bust and just mount Cheney there?

Probably a bad idea in retrospect…would certainly frighten the children…

You gave me the willies there for a moment.

Wait, what are they busting him for? Is this a drug bust, an ATF bust, a smuggling bust?

I don’t get it either. He was already a bust.

Or better yet, carve a few shotgun pellets into his face.

After all, good art isn’t just making a sculpture perfectly identical to the person;
Good art means you add something appropriately symbolic–a reminded of the most famous act which person will be remembered for.

So ,yeah, by that logic…Dan Quayle’s statue should include a potato(e) .

Mounting Cheney in any shape, manner or form will definitely frighten the children. And the “willies.”

I call dibs on painting a bulls-eye on his face.

(I wouldn’t do that to the bust, though. Art is sacred.)
