OK, so you and your six fellow thugs are on the run and heading for the hills. But wait - is that where you are really heading? Where do you go? What do you do?
When you consider the vastness of our country, and the hundreds of millions of people in it, it seems incredible that the feds could track down anyone. You would think that a person could blend into society, and looking for him would be like finding a needle in a haystack. But it happens all the time. Apparently the world can get pretty small in a hurry if the full resources of the government are on your tail.
So my question is - what are the practical suggestions that would minimize the chances of your being caught? Here are mine:
-
Do not commit any unnecessary crimes. This brings you unwanted attention, from law enforcement in particular. An initial holdup of a sporting goods store might be justifiable, but having come away loaded up with cash and weapons, you are best off laying low as much as possible. Getting stopped for speeding could be the end of the road for you.
-
Split up. Seven guys having around together nonstop kind of attracts more attention than seven guys dispersed across an entire country. Plus, if you’re together, if one guy gets caught it won’t be long for the rest as well.
-
Do not attempt to immediately contact old buddies or relatives. The gov will be watching them like hawks. In fact, though preparation is always key to success, care must be taken in this instance about what you may have told your buddies back in the slammer. They will likely be interviewed by the cops as well, and information they have given you may be used to track you down.
-
Get a job in a field that employs alot of illegal immigrants. They are likely not too careful about ID.
-
Possibly - go to Canada. I’m unsure if border guards are instucted to check for fugitives. If not, this seems like a good idea. Even if someone got wind of the fact that you’ve gone up there, it is not likely that the Canandian government will bring the same manpower to bear as the US will.
That’s all off the top of my head. Anything else?
