But, his emails!!

Via the Indianapolis Star:

A very big deal when your opponent does it, but not a big deal when your VP does it, apparently.

YOu know that link’s a year old, right?

Yup, the right are all hypocrites. We know. They probably know too. They just don’t care because “fuck Hilary Clinton and fuck you too.”

facepalm

That’s what I get for following chains of links. I saw that the date (March 2) was recent, and didn’t even think about looking at the year.

Just for the record:

This doesn’t actually mean that Pence’s e-mail account was compromised. The same thing could have happened if the e-mail of any of his contacts was compromised, and most often that’s the way it’s done.

He uses AOL. That should be a crime in and of itself.

Yeah, I know verizon mail is now AOL mail, and it might be an innocent mishap. But still…

Hope Hicks says her email was hacked.

Lock her up!

I won’t defend the behavior or anything, but security flaws are a bit more problematic for a Secretary of State than a governor of Indiana. Maybe ISIS will sabotage their corn and college basketball reserves.

Lock him up!

You might as well ask why Eliot Spitzer was forced to resign, but Stormy Daniels is “Ho* hum nothing to see here.”

*Pun unintended but acknowledged

I’m neither a Clinton nor a Pence fan, but it seems worth pointing out that:

  1. The Secretary of State deals with many things that are Top Secret and/or relevant to the strategies that the US is trying to take across the globe.
  2. The Governor of Indiana does not.

Now, perhaps there is some sort of rule that his emails need to use the government email address, for purposes of record keeping and the ability to respond to transparency requests. But, in general, I think that the concerns about a state governor are going to be lower than those of the Secretary of State.

Whatever Trump did there was as a private citizen. Spitzer was Governor during and did financial transactions that were probably innocuous but not seen as such at the time.

Still, the Stormy Daniels thing should be bigger news.

A very fair point, but given that Pence was a vocal critic of Clinton for the email issue, and that it appears that some of his emails were, while not necessarily Top Secret, apparently of a sensitive nature (relating to homeland security, among other topics), it’s hypocrisy, if nothing else.

A private citizen who was a few days away from a national election in which he was a major party candidate, when hush money was paid to a porn star. That private citizen was subject to actual laws concerning campaign finance—laws which he does appear to have violated in the course of paying off the porn star.

So Trump’s alleged affair with the porn star may fall under the parameters of having taken place when he was a private citizen, with the implication that it’s not worthy of investigation. The payoff: not so much.

In other “but, his emails!” news, there’s this:

Okay, the alleged affair was 12 years ago but I missed that the payoff was that recent. Sketchy indeed. But Trump seems to have success with the Monty Burns/Conservation of Ninjutsu scandal policy - the more potential scandals that exist drown out any individual message and effectively cancel out.

Yeah, that’s a good one for him to go with–he’s got no shortage of scandals to serve up.

Hacked E-mail? hacked E-mail!
Illicit sexual affair? Illicit sexual affair!

I am disappointed to see otherwise intelligent Dopers jump out of the woodwork whining “No! Our side doesn’t do it too. The Demos are the bad guys. Ha ha ha.”

Sheeeezh.
