for a 23 year old… no prior accidents or ticket… on a 99 Olds Alero. Looking for liability only in the state of IL.
Who really has the lowest rate to offer me?
(Yes, I am looking.) Thanks for your help. The winner gets a ride in my car!

Pretty much impossible to tell from here.
My suggestion is let your fingers do the walking.
Mercury used to have excellent rates for young males.
State Farm came through for my son when he was your age.
21st Century can sometimes be a good deal, but they may not take you.
Call around.
In Chicago, I’ve found the cheapest rates for me at Accurate Auto Insurance. They’ve been significantly cheaper than any place I could find on any of the auto insurance price comparison web sites.
If you are going for a local auto insurance provider, just call and ask for a quote. I am not sure what is the going rate in your state or region, but in Texas, at least South Texas, for someone like your general info, I would say $35 to $40 per month.
USAA has consistently been the cheapest in the United States. The only problem is, they are only for military members and military families.
It would help if the OP was a bit older, say around thirty.
I see what you did there. Well played!
Anyone have any thoughts on why an OP with the handle SweetHomeColorado would be interested in rates for Illinois?
Perhaps his handle wasn’t SweetHomeColorado when he first posted his question, 7 years ago.
Or, perhaps, he was originally from Colorado, and moved to Chicago.
Either way, he’s been off the boards for 4 years, so we’re unlikely to get an answer from the source.

Since insurance rates have changed quite a bit since 2006 (making most of this thread’s information very much out of date) I am just going to close this. Anyone wishing to discuss this in a more modern context may open a new thread in the appropriate forum.
