But what does it DO! (Gillette M3 Power... With a battery)

What does a battery being in it achieve?

Does it actually do something effective? or is it (as I suspect) a complete fraud, a ‘marketing breakthrough’?

This is probably pit material, but I am putting cynicism asside for a moment and asking if it is a genuine working thing.

I like it personally. The razor is basically just a Mach 3 only it vibrates … like a vibrator. It makes the hairs on my face stand up so it has an easier shave. Plus it drowns out the annoying sound of the razor scraping my flesh and stubble. I’ve noticed less razor burns on my neck since I’ve used it.

The battery does indeed improve things (IMHO). It’s supposed to vibrate the hair away from the skin. How it does this is a complete mystery to me, but it does make shaving a lot more pleasent than before. Gillette’s own waffle can be found here.

Having a beard like barbed wire, I can tell you that the M3 gives me the best shave of my life. Far superior to any other razor.

Ummm, okay. Tell me people, doesn’t your hair still grow a milimeter or so every day, so does this make any difference in the long run, say 6 hours?

A well shaven beard looks better than a badly shaven one.

First Impressions cunt.
So if the first thing your colleagues see is a close shave then you’ve done the job. It doesn’t really matter if you have stubble at the end of the day (unless you do shift work and people take over from you. In which case stubble can be a good sign that you’ve had a worthwhile day, which is also a good first impression)

Errr, I mean ‘count’. (not ‘cunt’)

Precious.

Back to the razor. Is there any chance it could malfunction and start the blades vibrating side to side–like an electric knife? I’d be a little timid about that.

Yeah, I’m thinking that generally I don’t wan’t sharp metal vibrating near my face. OTOH, I have a pretty heavy beard and may be willing to give it a shot. Does it use blades for the other Mach 3 products, or is it off in its own world at $12 for 4 blades?

As far as I can tell, it does vibrate side to side. And yes, before I bought it I read the package…Even though they sell separate blades for it, it says something along the lines of “ANY Mach3 blades will fit any Mach3 razor.” IOW the M3 blades you already have will fit in it just fine. They’re just not as cool looking.

That shaving scene from Airplane! comes to mind.

My first thought…“Hey! This isn’t the Pit!!!”
:smack:
I’m going to buy one for Mr. Ruby and send it to him in Afghanistan. He has a course beard and absolutely hates to shave. Since he’s working for Uncle Sam, shaving a minimum of once a day is a necessity. Hope he likes it.

Clarification…I’m going to buy him a Gillette M3 Power… :smack:

As fae as my experience with knifes goes, it would have to vibrate side to side.

Think about it. A jumping jack razor would do nothing but pull the hairs. If you put your thumb on a really sharp blade, you can apply significant downward force but pull the blade and wow. Cut to the bone.

The blades on the M3 Power are different then the blades on the regular Mach 3. The M3 Power blades have a special coating on them. This alone could account for a better shave. Has anyone tried shaving with the M3 Power without turning it on?

I got the impression from the ads that it gives the skin little electric shocks to make the bristles stand up. Sounded a bit far-fetched. I’m getting one anyway as I’m always in search of the perfect shave (I’m a sucker like that).

FWIW, I’ve tried both the Mach 3 and the Mach 3 vibrating. I haven’t notived any difference in the type of shave I get. Both are good razors but, IMHO, the vibrating feature is just a marketing gimmick.

Remington had the same thing years ago, except that the handle was huge to accomodate a double A battery. I had one and liked it. It used Gillete Atra blades. I may try the new thing.

Anyone know of any plans to make a similar razor for women?

I suspect this thing is waterproof, right? I don’t douse my razor (women’s) in water but it does get wet.

And if they DON’T make a similar one for women, what do you think about me using a Mach3 Power on my legs? I am always looking for the perfect shave, too

Someone with a Mach 3 Power, please have your female SO shave with it and let me know the results!

I suspect the orbit of the vibrations is very very small - if so, it will help the curring action - at a microscopic scale, even a razor edge looks like saw teeth - a very tiny back-and-forth motion will make it act somewhat like a saw.

I believe there are surgical instruments that work with vibrating blades.
