But will she say yes?

That’s a very sweet engagement story. Here’s to many happy years together!

Congrats! May I offer the suggestion of eloping to Vegas? Let the families and friends throw you lots of parties, but eloping saves so much hassle it’s unbelievable.

Gorgeous! And it sounds like you surprised her even though she had some suspicions (maybe she thought it would happen at the restaurant?)! Well done, and congratulations.

I second that!

No, no, no. Have a real wedding, please. You’ll have fun and be able to share your happy day with others, too. Just keep a sense of proportion and a sense of humor about it all, and you’ll be in good shape. Insist on having the wedding you both want to have, not the one a busybody relative/overbearing wedding planner/moneygrubbing caterer/etc. wants you to have.

Congratulations, sciguy. May I suggest a quick search on wedding threads for some really solid advice? There was one a couple of months ago on all the things that people truly hate about weddings; it should be linked to and posted on all bridal sites. Most of the things were universal.

Mazel tov!

And what a beautiful ring. May you have many happy years together.

Again-congrats you two!

//00+!

Your choice of ring is similar to my wife’s, except with the sapphire and diamonds reversed. She worked with a jeweler to do a custom design. (I didn’t exactly propose, we more just sort of both decided to get married.)

I hope you two have been discussing this. And I hope you will not demand an immediate answer from her.

I’ve got… opinions… about the whole “popping the question” thing…

Oh, don’t mind me.

As a future BIL, let me second this. My sister’s wedding is still a year and a half away and we’re ALREADY getting to-do lists. Meanwhile my mother, who should be saving for retirement, and paying off debt, and paying off our new $12K floor that’s on a 22% credit card if it’s not paid off within a year, has volunteered $5,000 for the damn thing. Not sure where she thinks she’s going to GET the money, but…

Pretty cool! Sorry I missed out wishing you luck earlier, but let me wish you a lifetime of joy and love together now.
