Pretty much what I thought, but I wasn’t sure if McConnell/Ryan were going to drop that little tactic now that Trump is in office.
Still, then, why sign the bill? Why not let it slide into law without his signature? His veto likely wouldn’t be upheld, but signing it - even though he didn’t want to - makes him look weak.
Just one more nugget in a shitstorm of ineptitude, I guess.
[hijack] how does one join a message board in jan 2016 and chose the username of a word that is invented in may 2017? Are you a time traveller? [/hijack]
It was actually a rare rule from the AOL days, that said anyone can change to a palindrome of their mother’s maiden name. So Penelope Efefvoc Jablonski’s kid was in luck.
Speaking of palindromes, have you seen the most wonderful Weird Al spoof of Bob Dylan called “Bob”?
Lyrically, each line is a palindrome. Genius, I tell ya’.
I just assumed that covfefe was the guy in the military that programmed the football.
Because I’m pretty sure that “covfefe” was the nuclear code and that the Pentagon went into a tailspin when Trump tweeted it out. After the next round of firings the story will be leaked to WaPo.
A comment from the comment section of that video:
“If you listen to it backwards, it’s scary and satanic. If you listen to it regular, it’s 10 times worse”
I think the idea was, if you veto and the veto is overridden, you look VERY weak, so that’s out.
When the announcement was made that he would sign, there was an effort made to make it seem as though he was involved in dRafting the legislation: he had “negotiated” with Congress and made it a better bill. Made him seem gracious and presidential and a good negotiator; made it seem almost like it was his idea. Well, that was the theory. Don’t know if it would’ve worked. But Trump immediately abandoned that script, so we didn’t have any chance to find out!
If Congress is in recess for three days or more, the president can unilaterally appoint people to positions that normally require Senate approval. The fear is that Trump will wait for a recess, fire Sessions, and hire a rubber-stamp AG who will fire Mueller.
By holding a pro forma session every few days where a single senator gavels the Senate to order and then adjourns a few minutes later, that possibility is prevented.
