I worry that some idiots in the stands will probably take his suggestion. It wouldn’t have to be a large number of people, either - just enough to get cameras to move in their direction so that Fox and Friends can talk about it all week.
The only thing this “president” has succeeded at so far is dividing people - that’s really all he knows how to do. He knows nothing about coalitions of people together to, you know, help pass laws; his only true talent is in pitting people against each other and watching the building burn from a distance. And there are still millions of people who think that this is what passes for leadership.
Donald Trump does not respect the office of the Presidency, he does not appreciate or knowingly acts ignorant to the responsibilities which come with it, and I have a strong feeling he didn’t announce his intention to seek public office expecting to get it.
Trump is the ultimate barker. It’s easy to be the opposition and throughout the years he has opposed everyone who bared the burden of making the decisions. He opposed both Democrats and Republicans. His allegiance was not to a party or with a vision in mind, he reacts to whatever comes about. Being opposition means you can flip-flop without having to be the man under scrutiny for making the right decision…why didn’t you do this? if only you did that etc
President Truman had on his desk a sign which read “The buck stops here”. Every President has an ego to varying degrees…you wouldn’t run for the nation’s highest office if you didn’t. However once you are in that position it’s because you did sell a vision to the American people and you put yourself forward as the only man who can deliver it. What then follows regarding success and failure is on your shoulders as a result.
Donald Trump is facing this and he does not like it. His life was perfect as a businessman who had a bit of clout in popularity and who could dictate narratives from the comfort of Trump Tower. He started the whole discussion of illegal immigrants when he announced his campaign. He made outlandish claims not expecting to ever put them into practice.
As President he will be despised if he does put these into practice, and despised if he doesn’t because he sold that dream to his support base.
He is a cornered cat and I will not be at all surprised if he decides he’s had enough.
Of course being the narcissist he is he’d announce it saying “I’ve made America great again so my job is done”.
Trump is going to end up looking impotent here. The NFL players and owners are showing that the emperor has no clothes on this issue. First game this week in London and everyone is taking a knee this morning.
I’m really curious to see what happen with good 'ol boy Jerry’s team, especially with the big stage Monday night. I hope some of the guys go do make a statement, but I can’t blame them if they don’t.
I predict that soon, people will not stand at the anthem as a way of protesting the POTUS. And then it will be personal to Trump, and the shitshow will be glorious. Interesting times, y’all!
New England Patriots CEO Robert Kraft, who’s buddy-buddy with Trump, donated a million bucks to the inauguration foofaraw, and gave Der Trumpfer himself a Superbowl LI ring, released this statement:
Not to mention, kneeling can be problematic for old knees.
When I was a little Catholic girl, I used to (silently) mock the old people who clutched and leaned on the end pew when they genuflected. Today I couldn’t genuflect to save my life.
