Why not? There have never, to my knowledge, been any negative repercussions for Donald Trump (or any of his family that I know of) because of having said something untrue or hurtful. Why wouldn’t they say whatever they thought needed to be said to paint themselves in the best possible light? It has literally never not worked before. In fact, it seems to have the exact opposite effect and consequence: every lie, every hurtful thing, only gains them more power and more money.
