South Park scene - They terk er perp!
Looks like somebody is in a bad mood about being denounced as a foreign lackey:
Why does think we think his job is to act as a fundraiser for NATO?
And why would a truly strong nation and/or it’s leader need or want Russia’s “help” to negotiate with North Korea?
:dubious:
I have to admit that I would LOVE to see a boxing match between Trump and Putin. No gloves. And give them lead pipes.
Screw that. Give them both machine guns.
In other words, you’d love to see Putin beat the crap out of Trump. Because that’s the only way this ends. ![]()
He already is, and Trump ain’t winning.
I seriously think (based on the words dribbling out of his own mouth) that Trump does not understand how NATO works. He thinks it’s a country club, and those slackers in Europe are behind in their dues and we’re covering for them.
(In reality, membership in NATO entails a commitment to spend on your own defense. You don’t write a check to NATO…you write a check to your own budget under the line item “defense”.)
I would not be surprised to learn that months or years ago, Putin’s agents (involved with Trump because he was laundering money for them, etc.) convinced Trump that NATO does work via nations writing checks to the US.
And now Trump is all excited, thinking he’s going to get his hands on that imaginary ‘account.’ And of course he wants to make sure there’s as much in the account as possible.
Yes, but they’re required to spend a certain amount of their budget (or is it GDP?) on defense. All member countries benefit from the idea of mutual defense, but they should also all contribute to it. Relying on the U.S. to provide deterrence (in the form of troops and weapons) while other countries spend their money on welfare and health care does mean they’re getting more from the pact than they’re giving. Since countries in Europe are more threatened by a direct invasion than the U.S., you could even make the case that they should contribute more than the relative American share.
Trump’s an asshole and an idiot, but I haven’t heard him say anything to suggest he didn’t view Europe’s NATO obligations in that way.
Trump tweets out a video with the logo from Russian state TV Channel One.
Well, that’s one way to prevent hacking-style Russian propoganda interventions — do their work for them, in broad daylight!
Also, WTF? Who cares what Sec. William Jennings Bryan thought of Czar Nicholas, or whatever?
There is none so easily fooled as those who desperately wish to believe.
Well, he does seem completely ignorant of the fact that the member countries are NOT in violation of their obligations and when he says they are, he’s lying. The agreement is not for the countries to spend 2% of their GDP on defense now. The agreement is that the countries would work on ramping up their defense budgets and reach 2% by 2024. Which they are doing.
And when he says that the NATO countries aren’t paying their share and need to pay up, I think the implication is that they are in default of some sort of payment they owe, like they are some sort of bad roommates that haven’t been paying their share of the cable bill. Which is a lie.
If he thinks U.S. taxpayers are being overburdened by having to make up for what other countries are paying for their defense, why is it that one of the first things he did as president was to significantly increase the Defense budget?
Yep - one of my favorite questions to my friends on the right is “after the NATO countries get to 2%, how much will the US reduce defense spending?”
And really if you wanted a really effective European military structure you’d be supporting a federal arrangement linking economic, social and military standards across member states. That would facilitate comprehensive logistical improvements in moving military forces about and rationalize force structures and power projection.
Or not, who the fuck knows anymore
What is he even trying to say by that tweet? That Hillary is a Putin fan? This tweet makes no sense
Trump (really meaning Putin) does not want a really effective European military structure. Or an effective EU. The goal is to sabotage it all. No NATO, no EU, no trade alliances. Just an “open range” where Putin can simply grab/invade whatever he wants with no interference.
I get that. You get that. However there is a cadre of Republicans, and the Fuckwit in Chief, convinced an EU peer is a threat to US supremacy instead of a critical ally.
