If by “CAVED” you mean Trump was forced to admit he wasn’t going to force anybody to let him give his stump speech, I guess that’s true.
There was zero chance he would give a traditional SOTU address in the current circumstances. Acknowledging reality isn’t ‘caving’ in any real sense, since he isn’t giving anything up. What he has offered and what he has effectively lost is something in the neighborhood of diddly-squat and about the same as zippity-do-dah. The only real ‘cave’ is when he finally signs a bill ending the shutdown without any money for his damned wall.
With this piece of shit it is a big day when he acknowledges reality. He also went head to head with Pelosi and lost. You don’t think that isn’t going to stiff the Resistance?
The SOTU would have been political, but then it always is.

The very disappointing Donald Trump, who many are calling “Loser Donald”, was embarrassed like a dog when “Nancy” made him delay his Historic speech! SAD!
My guess is that he gave up on the idea of having his own pseudo-SotU speech at some different venue with blackjack and hookers when his minions started getting indications that, after getting burned by the weak low-energy “address” from the Oval Office a couple weeks ago, the networks weren’t willing to commit to full live coverage.
It’s a seemingly small bruise, but it’s potentially significant. By shutting the government down and cutting off income to 800,000 employees, many of who are forced to work anyway, Trump succeeded in making himself look like a heartless, rich, sociopathic asshole. But by forcing Trump to do the speech on Nancy Pelosi’s terms, Pelosi succeeded in making Trump look…weak.
A border rancher sounds like someone who grows borders. You can always increase the length of a border. Maybe one day the boundary between the US and Mexico will go Full Fractal. It will give perpetual employment to those building t border wall.
Yesterday, Rep. Trey Gowdy was on Fox, and urged Trump not to consider holding a SOTU rally. He said that the audience for the SOTU address is the entire nation, including people who would never consider voting for him.

It’s pretty surprising that he just accepted her decision. I was expecting today’s Tweet to be something like “Nazi Nancy doesn’t want me speaking to the people from the House even though SS says safe. What is she trying to hide from the American people?” Only, you know, with more typos.
You don’t think the tweet announcing he wouldn’t give the speech was actually written by Trump, do you?
Read it again, it just doesn’t have the Trump voice.
We’re in a sad time when the obvious and expected become revelatory and remarkable.
He wrote the last line putting great in quotes, and of course the needed exclamation mark that makes it even greater!1!11!! You can tell it’s from Trump if it sounds like a 12 year old describing their first date.
The rest was written by someone with at least a high school education. It’s almost eloquent and uses bigly words.
My guess is that someone handed him a paper that he was supposed to type up into a tweet. He did the first part of the statement as-written, but realized it was boring copying what someone else wrote, and wrote the last sentence his own way.
He (or someone with sense) realized that holding the SotU somewhere else was conceding victory to Pelosi. He can’t give the speech to Congress because he’s not invited and he can’t give it at an alternate location because then Nancy wins. She played it masterfully and he had to back down.
I’m really wondering what thump’s Twitterstorm is going to be tomorrow morning…

It occurs to me that giving the speech at an alternate location does not pass constitutional muster. He is (theoretically) addressing Congress, not the (reality) TV-viewing public. He can give the address in person when and if invited, or he can do like real presidents have done in the past: drliver a written speech.
Or, better yet, he can just STFU and let an adult handle the situation.
When I read commentary about the latest deal and how Tan the Conman was described, I was certain he would renege yet again. He did sign the bill though.
