Yeah, my grandma lived there and she and her friends were horribly and openly bigoted. I remember being shocked by the things they said—this was about 30 years ago, but still. And she was aghast when my sister and I said we were going to go to the public beach right by her condo. According to her it was just not done to go mix with the unwashed masses, despite it being so close. We needed to wait until she could take us several miles away to the ultra-exclusive Bath and Tennis Club, where waiters walked along the beach carrying fancy carved pineapples to hand out to members and their guests.
